VSG 2013, RNY conversion 2019 due to GERD. Trendweight here!
It can affect you like it can affect anyone, with or without RNY.
Any steroids can makes us more insulin resistant - and you fasting BS can be higher than normal. Steroids may cause weight gain due to insulin resistance and hunger and eating more, craving more carby stuff. - The insulin resistance can't be avoided, but knowing that you are not really hungry - that it is just meds - and that it should not last forever - may help you resist the carbs /sugar cravings. Depends on the dose - they can be brutal (sugar cravings) . The 21 day dose probably include a normal week or a 10 day dose - the rest is a slow tapering to allow your body to deal with getting off of steroids. You can't just take them for 10 days and then stop "cold turkey". That would - could make you very sick. So they need to be tapered very slowly.
While you start taking them - you may feel like you have more energy and are hot- sweating, irritated, even angry.
In some people they can cause stomach irritation - and long term use of large dose of steroids can cause ulcers, etc.. But that mostly applies for LONG term...weeks and months...on a LARGE dose of steroids...
Now the antibiotic amoxicillin - ALWAYS messes up my stomach...
When I take antibiotics and steroids - I try to concentrate on easy to digest foods - cooked meat, cooked veggies, not a lot of spices. No fried food. I also know that my body will make more acid so i sometimes use an additional antacid (zantac) or even PPI...
Good luck.

Everything Hala said. When I've taken steroids in the past for asthma I also noticed feeling more emotionally labile. If possible avoid taking them at night or they might cause insomnia. I also peed a lot more so that's another good reason to avoid taking them at bedtime.
