Post Op Pain Trouble
Hello.
I had my laparoscopic roux en y surgery the morning of the 18th and it went well. It's is now the night of the 22nd and I'm still having some pain issues. Lying still on my back is the only bearable position. Sitting is very uncomfortable and walking is a bit better then sitting but still painful. Getting up from lying or sitting, the pain is very intense. The nurse called to check in and suggested weaning off the narcotics and others who got the surgery around the same time as me seem to be doing much better in terms of pain. And then here I am. It's very much centered on the incisions on my left side (where the biggest one is)
Should I be worried? Is there something I can do?
I have a follow up with the doc On the 25th and I'll tell him all this. I just want to know if anyone has any advice I guess
Pain meds are given to us for a reason, and 4 days post op seems to be a little early to go off of them. You just had major surgery on your stomach and will still have some pain for a while yet. I was on pain meds for almost 2 weeks. Some people have a better pain tolerance than others. Don't worry that yours is a little lower than others.

This a) seems totally normal for when your body is healing from major surgery and b) is why painkillers exist. :)
