Hello Everyone,

I've been lurking for a few days and have found great info and advice on this site already. I am scheduled for bypass on 9/2 and today is my first day of the liquid diet I have to do for 2 weeks before surgery. Super excited for surgery and a little nervous about the liquids for 2 weeks. Getting ready to have my first Premier Protien shake for lunch. Any suggestions for how you all made it through the liquid diet? Could you have a glass of wine while on the liquid diet or is that a no no?

I'm excited to be here. Wish me luck!!!

Welcome!

The point of the pre-op liquid is to shrink your liver so the surgeon can get to your stomach. If it's big it can cause complications and it also prolongs your surgery and time under anesthesia so alcohol of any kind is a big no no. The liquid diet is rough. Warm liquids like broth satisfied me the most. Also sugar free Popsicles.

Good luck!

Three words: Gut It OUT!  That is my advice to everyone starting this part of your rest-of-your-life journey.  It's not easy, but it's necessary, and you can do it.

As for the wine: absolutely NOT.  Your liquids should only include, sugar free tea, sugar free Jello, sugar free popsicles, water, and broth.  It's only a few weeks of your life and you know it's the right thing to do or you wouldn't be doing this.

Best of luck to you!  Get on here everyday if you need to, so we can support you through this process.

Wine is definitely a no go.  And you won't be drinking alcohol for at least the first year post-op.

The pre-op liquid diet sucks, but the first 3-4 days are the worst.  Tough it out, keep focused on the end result :)

Welcome! The liquid diet is hard, but stick with it and you'll be very happy with your decision! In reference to the wine -- no way!!!! The pre-op diet does not permit any alcohol. Good luck with your surgery!
