Sweet Foods

I did think you were judging.  I wasn't trying to sound agressive, but I was trying to indicate how damn difficult it is years post op.

Personally, I rarely use sugar substitute ( cranberry sauce is one of my exceptions ), but I know for many post ops, having sugar substitutes in one form or the other helps them live the wls lifestyle.

I keep a protein bar in my bag for emergencies and love an icy protein shake those mornings I can't face breakfast.  Most of the time I eat meat and veg simply prepared.  But I don't look down on those who need greater variety or a sweet taste in their diet.  As long as they can control it.

People can have a tendency to think they have it all figured out pre surgery or for the first year or so.  Then the drudgery of day to day wls life.  Portions,  weighing, planning etc.  That's when the real work begins.

Sometimes it's wise not to judge until you've walked at least a few miles in some post op shoes.

My grand daddy always said, before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. The, when you criticize them, you'll be a mile away. And, you'll have their shoes.

I have used sugar substitutes since I came home from the hospital.  I make ice creams, cakes, cookies, candies, cheesecakes and pies without sugar.  I do not use sugar or flour.  There are great substitutes for both.  I am still at my goal weight after nine years.

I changed my life but not my love of sweets.

When making cakes, cookies, and pies do you use alternative flours (eg. coconut, almond, etc.)?  I would love your recipes for all the sweets you make!  I have really been enjoying the protein ice creams I've been making with my Cusinart Ice Cream Maker.

Try Fat-free Sugar-Free Cheesecake

I also use Muffin in a Minute recipes.  I make mine with flaxseed.  I have used almond flour in certain recipes.  Our recipe forum is full of great recipes, but make sure that they are not using wheat flour, honey or other things that will slow your weight loss.

Go to the Recipe Forum and do a search this forum for whatever you are craving.  Also Google search for low carb, Atkins recipes.

Our Recipe Forum, of course! I use it all the time but figured you may have different recipes.  I'll check with my NUT to see if I can have flaxseed yet.  I'm guessing I will be told not to use it until I am on maintanence.  Do you have a substitute for honey?

There is also Eggface's blog and Nik has (and I think it's still out there) Bariatric Foodie.  You might try those if you haven't already.  =)

Ok, I'm kind of with you on this.  I changed the way I eat when I had surgery - I don't make Franken foods that mimic the crap that got me fat.  No protein shakes or bars (most of which are just candy bars with added protein - they're still a candy bar!)   There absolutely are foods that are way better for you health wise - especially if you are eating several of these bars a day!

If you can eat clean, it is way better for you than eating diet stuff, but this is not a sprint it's a marathon.  I try to do the best I can, but can't say I've not had a diet soda.  I can, on the other hand say I've not eaten cake or cookies or many other processed foods, whether sugar free or not.  It's my choice.

This whole journey is a series of daily, even hourly, choices - make the ones YOU can do for the rest of your life and be prepared to change your mind as cir****tances warrant.

Thank you for your kind reply.  You have explained 100% what I wanted to say.  Being French sometimes is difficult to say exactly what I mean.  We all have to adjust/change due to different cir****tances but overall what I want to do is eat proper nutrition and not processed or food that got me fat.  If you look at the ingredients of these so called low fat muffins, cookies, cakes - I am avoiding them now because I got fat on them.

You didn't get fat from these foods, you got fat from the carbs and sugars used to make them, as well as the lack of portion control.  I want to be able to eat what I used to enjoy, only made with healthy ingredients and use portion control.
