You are hungry so you are eating more.  You are gaining weight because you are eating more.

The best way to overcome that is to cut out carbs.  Flour, sugar, soda, crackers, rice, bread, potatoes, cookies, cake, ice cream, chips, cereal and other carbs will make you hungry and make you consume more calories.

If you are serious about losing weight, then cut calories and carbs.  Get your nourishment from protein.  Weigh yourself daily, track everything you eat and drink, weigh your portions and cut 500 calories a day.  You need 1400 calories a day to maintain at 140.  You need 900 a day to lose a pound a week.  To stay at 115 you would need 1150 calories a day.

Eating back exercise calories does not work.

The only liquids I consume are water n decaf coffee with 2 milk and I have one to two glasses of milk a day my hubby is on dialysis so we don't eat potatoes or rice I have maybe a piece of rye toast every other day maybe a burger bun or hotdog buns worth a week .. I have maybe two to three cookies a month no cake maybe two spoons of ice cream or two little chunks of dark chocalate a month as for calories I'm strict I get about 1000/ day so I don't understand the weight gain like I said I've been maintaining my same weight for the last 3 yes

Your body got smarter in retaining all the calories.  plus changed in hormones - created a shift...

That little here and there adds up.  2 glasses of milk has 24 gr of pure sugar...  I switched to unsweetened almond or coconut milk. No sugar- but some fat that helps me feel full and i still limit thatto 1/2 cup if any in my coffee..

when I was trying to lose my regain I even had to cut most fruits from my diet but I allowed myself 1-2 cup of berries per week when i still had some "weekly calories left" . For me to lose and maintain - I need to cut all grains out of my diet.    No bread, not even one piece of toast. (unless I am trying to gain weight- grains help me gain weight if I get too low)

I want to maintain at 150...so for me 1500 cal per day is maintance. this is an average calories...because I would eat less one day - more another... for me to lose - I had to limit the calories to 900-1000..

plus - with RNY - I know i still malabsorb fat- but my body is very efficient to absorb all the carbs I eat.  Like super efficient.

carbs in my system would cause insulin response - insulin - blocks fat release, makes us gain and makes us hungry.  Eating too many carbs - even on relatively low calorie diet makes me gain weight, or stop losing.  Higher fat diet with moderate proteins and low carbs - I lose weight and I have problem keeping it on.

You are eating more. It really is just that simple.

Start weighing your food, and tracking it. Every calorie. I had surgery a month after you, and have tracked every day since I started on regular food. Almost 1,500 days. I KNOW I would be eating more at this point if I didn't.

It's hard. Really hard. Your post says you THINK your portions are creeping up. Stop guessing. Weigh and track your food. Cut back 500 calories a day, and you'll lose 1 pound a week.

You can do this.

I agree with Hala & that the hormone changes might have caused your body to become more efficient at turning calories into fat. So even though you have a physical job you'll have to cut back on the calories, probably a bit more than you're used to. It sucks, you'll probably have to cut back even more just to maintain, much less lose.

You'll have to be more strict, slightly increasing portions, grazing here n there add up more than you think, especially if you keep adding carbs. Things like pouch reset & optimum drinks for a couple of weeks is a temporary solution to an ongoing problem & your body responded in kind.

Track everything in mfp, including the grazing. Weigh, measure everything, be brutally honest with yourself, then cut back.

You can do this. Good luck to you.

Ditto to what everyone said. If there is no medical reason for weight gain then sadly the reason is getting away from the basics. Here is a list of all the little things that add up to weight loss.

Planning/Preparing

Remember when we were preparing for surgery?  How many meetings, classes and such did we attend?  We were told the more prepared we were the better our chances were for success.  And they were right. Go through the house, car and work place and get rid of trigger foods.  Stock up on foods that will keep you on track. I removed every bad carb/sugar temptation and replaced it with lots of protein, veggies, grains and fruits.

Journaling

Get back to journaling.  This will help you identify when you feel like eating, stress factors and any triggers in your life.  Once you identify these factors, this will help you put tools in place to keep you from eating.  It became clear I was not taking time for me anymore. I worked my day job and then spent the rest of my time caring for my husband.  It was easy to reach for fast, prepackaged food.  Since I purged my home I have to eat clean as there are no other options LOL

Use a tool to track you're eating and exercise like Getting Started with Health Tracker.  Once I started to track ever bite and drink it became clear why I had gained.

Goals/Rewards

Make a list of goals for yourself.  Make them realistic and small.  Some of mine were move more, purge all junk from my home, eat more protein.

Food

In general, a long term post-weight loss surgery eating plan includes foods that are high in protein, and low in fat?, calories, and sugar. Important, vitamins and minerals are provided as supplements. (if you had a different surgery adjust this to your food plan).

Water

Water is our Best Friend. I have to say I never went back to pop or any bad drinks, however I was drinking tea like crazy. What is wrong with drinking tea?  I was either using sugar or 3 equals and 3 sweet n lows per 32 ounce glass.  So I was either pushing to be diabetic or get cancer.  I found once I started carrying a bottle of water around 24/7 (yes had one at my bedside) I lost the cravings for the sugar and I KNOW those artificial sweeteners are not good for me. Look I am old and if you add up all the artificial sweeteners I have consumed I am sure I am at the rat in the lab getting cancer threshold.

MOVE!

I can't say enough about how key this was for me. The reason I kept my weight off for almost 10 years was no matter what, I kept moving.  If I could not go to the gym I would walk. I loved Zumba, bootcamp workouts, lifting weights. When I stopped, the weight started coming back.  So for me I am starting slow to avoid injury by walking and using some of the workouts on my Demand TV.  Find something you love to do and it won't feel like a pain in the *** to do daily.

Support

If it's an option "run" don't walk to a support group.

Keep us posted on how you are doing!

Also you body is used to that level of physical activity at work. Unfortunately it gets used to that. I hope your husband is better soon. I know all about that renal diet (blah).
