Fat Doctor is a youtube British TV series. I just came across it.

There are many shows - but this one is about WLS for men - and how they are at greater risk for early death from obesity.
This is not everyone's cup of tea (no pun intended), but it is a little different than My 600 pound Life, although certainly similar.
To keep in mind, a STONE=14 pounds
a KILO is 2.2 pounds
At 29 min to 31 min they show the liver and why they want to shrink it prior to surgery.

I love this show! I've seen every episode. In season 2 (I think), one of the patients didn't survive the surgery--a very young man who had already had a couple of heart attacks.
The best thing about the show, though, is that they spend a long time in later episodes following up on patients from earlier surgeries.
Also, the surgeries are much more graphic than in other shows. It pretty much shows the entire surgery--open RNY in season one and laproscopic in seasons two+.

Cool - I just discovered it.
It seems more medically inclined - although they operate without masks!! Brit medicine??

I really like that show. I tend to watch programs like that because it puts the issue in my face in living color. I'm happy for the success many find and at the same time reminded that I don't ever want to go back to that again. It would be interesting to hear what other think while watching.

I love Fat Doctor... Have seen every episode and starting over to make sure I have not missed a detail. My surgery date is four weeks away and I want to know what is coming. I dsperately want this to work and of course fear that I will be the only on who it does not work for.
Scared and excited!
I LOVE this show, and have developed a slight crush on Dr. Shaw Summers. I wish he could do my surgery here in Canada! He has such a wonderful bedside manner.
I've seen every episode and I find a lot of the stories really touching. There was one episode in which the patient died a few days after surgery... god, that was sad. He was so young. Anyways, it shows the entire procedure for those that are interested, both keyhole and open surgery methods. I'd recommend it to anyone considering surgery. Just look it up on YouTube. It also went by the name Fat Surgeon for a while.
