Hello everybody, I am very new to this world but not new to the weight... right now I am in the liquid diet phase of pre surgery and it's day 2...OMG! No amount of water, protein shake, jello is taking away the hunger. I'm still doin good though saying no drinking water and keeping the course but this is hard especially as a single mom who has to feed her kids. Lord help a sistah out. What has helped everyone else? And can you eat sugar free yogurt??

Signed hungry but 12 days to go

JJ

Your doing an awesome job!! Every surgeon has a different pre-op diet. My surgeon allowed one regular meal a day. I would say yes to a Dannon light and fit Greek yogurt or try adding an extra shake when you are really struggling. These last few days will fly by!

Good luck,

Cass

Sugar Free Popcicles helped me (and still do). I esp like the Tropicals.

When my surgeon told me he wanted me to lose weihgt before surgery, I almost screamed at him - "WHY BOTHER???  It will just come back."  Really - my eyeballs were ready to jump out of my head.  But before I lost my cool, my brain said, "No, that is why you are having surgery, so it won;t come back."

The promise of having WLS helped me make good decisions during the pre-op phase.  (My surgery was Dec 22, so pre-op included Thanksgiving and all the Christmas parties - so I had to make good decisions in the face of temptations.)

I hope that you can find an idea that will help you tolerate the hunger and annoyance for the big payoff at the end!!!  Keep posting here if it help - and give those popcyciles a try.  If you don't like them, leave them in your freezer until after surgery - your tastes may change and they may be just what you need for a little fluid post op.

Best wishes on your journey to health.

And distraction. Distraction works. After a few days your shouldn't be quite as hungry.

Call your surgeon to ask about yogurt-- doctors can vary in what they allow patients to have.

My surgeon allowed sugar free popsicles, creamed soups, yogurt and protein shakes. Basically what they call full liquids.

I was there and, in hindsight, glad I resisted executing some one else's plan in favor of one that I designed for me with my doctor and his assistants.  It took me  while (March 15 to July 11) to get past all the crap feelings and get to the good ones.  So glad you have young kids to keep you inspired to do this.  You will get  HUGE payoff so stay with a good plan and adjust it with your doc tor's consent.

I agree that on Day 2 of the prep, your attitude and hunger has not adjusted.  I think you should NOT expect that to happen so quickly.  So get past that expectation and laugh it off with a bit of a new mentality which is that "You can survive feeling hungry....you can survive missing food...you cn survive being heavy....and you wil THRIVE when it is all past you and you feel so @#$%ing GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hang in there and try to get more sleep.

You're absolutely right! I will be able to say I can survive being hungry. Yes, I will put on my Dora attitude and keep moving because the end goal is the bigger picture. Thank you.

This was the toughest part of the whole process for me.  It started getting better for me day 4-5.  Beef and chicken broth helped me.

Day 3 was the hardest for me. I made sf jello jigglers so I had something I can "chew" on, ice helped too lol. Good luck and hang in there!
