Newbies: Before you message someone

And for the newbies - not everyone shares this sentiment. If someone takes the time to send a PM to me, I will answer regardless of whether I know them, or they have searched for an answer. It doesn't cost me anything to respond and share my experience. If they aren't grateful, that's none of my business. I'm being of service and that's all I'm responsible for in my life.

im only talking about Private messages.  Of course I get tired of the same old 3 week stall topics, but I'm an adult and I can just pass right on by without commenting.

Bonus: "lurking" around the forums and reading back a bit can give you a REALLY good feel for the "culture" of the site.

If you ask a basic question, you may get two or three responses. But if you look back at ALL the times something has been asked in the past, you'll get so much more information!

You can also get a feel as to what types of posts get good feedback, and which ones aren't even read by most forum-goers-- or worse.

Sorta like "who's who in the zoo" too.   Sifting out where the information originates and the posting history of that person.  The vets here are awesome, but we have our fair share of long timers who give DREADFUL information and advice.

Not all advice or information is equal

As for a "face" it is a preference thing - personally I prefer not to put my face out for everyone to see it.  I am selective as to whom I am telling about my WLS.

Put a picture of something you like; scenery, a hobby, an animal, a comic. Your choices are endless. :-)

Yes. Anything that distinguishes someone helps. There are too many user names that look like 1,000 others.

Man I lurked and creeped this site for months before each WLS.  I learned so much just hitting the previous page button.  In an age of "I want it now damnit" searching is great.  But conciser just browsing too as allows for new ideas and information to come to you before you think of it.  My suggestion for new people is to go back months in a forum and get lost in a wrath of info.
