To all vets/people with time under belt: HOW TO BE REGULAR?!

Ok... This is a TMI post -- kind of

Looking for what everyone does to maintain regularity and comfortable movements

I've been doing some fiber gummies + probiotic gummies, kombucha every morning, etc. I'm definitely not where I'd like to be.

I've seen people talk about keffir. I think I saw someone talk about how they add magnesium or something?

Looking for input ... for output.

Miralax.  Fiber is just going to give you gas and add bulk to the blockage.

I do Colace twice daily, plus Magnesium once a day, and a probiotic 2x daily. I also, since I haven't been eating enough fiber in my high-protein diet, started eating a high-protein/high-fiber/low sugar bar every other day or more often. Julian Paleo Bars  I also upped my water significantly. If I don't go for more than a couple of days, I do milk of magnesia. Sometimes it takes two days in a row of this to get things "moving".

I'm not sure which, or a combination of things, is working, but I'm finally mostly regular. I had a rough time at first, and several times had to take drastic measures. I'm interested in starting with making my own kefir water, but I haven't done that yet. If/when I do, I'll stop with the probiotic pills - they're expensive, and the kefir should do what they do, probably even better from what I've heard.

Chris, I'm not a vet, but I do a cap full of miralax every other day in my morning tea. It dissolves completely, I think you could do it in water or whatever. Some people do a cap daily, but I've found that every other day works fine for me. I also buy the generic and haven't noticed any difference.

I use miralax as well.  I only use it when I feel the need though.  I will use it for a few days every few weeks.

Good luck!

I have never had issues with this problem, so I really cannot offer suggestions.  We also had two different types of procedures, so I can't say if this is common with the VSG or not.  However, if you are taking any Iron, this can cause a little problem with movements.   When my vitamin def was diagnosed, I had to increase iron and this was a issue for a short period of time.  I did not have to use anything, since I switched from iron pills to patches.  Once, I found the topical patch vitamins and that alleviated the problem all together.

It would be best to talk to your surgeon to see what they suggest you use to get moving.   Everyone and every surgeon is different.

Good luck.
