Self Sabotage

This is hard for me to admit to everyone, but I have not been a good wls patient. I pretty much let my surgery do all the work to lose 110lbs. My goal was 180lbs. I am 20 months out of surgery now. But I've been at the same weight for almost a year. I stopped losing weight about 9 months post op. I want to work on losing the next 70lbs. I went for the DS surgery. Do you think it's possible for me to still lose that weight? If so, would going to an all protein diet help speed that up?

My problem is is that I've always been able to eat way more than what I thought I was. So I don't get full easily. I eat more like a normal person rather than a wls surgery patient. I only fill up fast if I eat rice, but everything else, I can still eat pretty big portions and not get full. I'm going to try not to snack all day also. So, any tips on how to start losing weight? And do you think it's possible to lose the remaining lbs?

I would do a search on this site (its in the top right hand corner)- the 5 day meat test is a place to start. If you are not recording and weighing everything in an app or on paper I would start that also.

I believe they say you need to ear 500 calories less per day to lose 1 pound a week.

Lisenros,

What I know about DS surgery is that, although different from my sleeve or a gastric bypass, it does NOT stand between you and good health after that first year.  These physical changes are, as you know, only one part to a healthy life.  Suggest you put that aside as a contributing factor.

Having said that, as you said. "I pretty much let my surgery do all the work".  The next 70 lbs needs your work, one ay at a time, back to basics.  The good and the bad is that you can "stomach" so to speak larger meals than you should have.  Well, since you now want to lose, you have to measure food, observe calories, and do it!

As for tips, seems like portion control and good food selection is at the top of the list.  Measure every week on same day (start today) and try hard to get 2 weeks in a row where you lose something, even 1 pound.  I don't know you but I think anyone can do it who has gone through what you have with the surgery and recovery behind you.  I am not just saying this to motivate you...but if you SUCCESSFULLY lost 110, you can do this.  Let me know if you need more detailed tips.

So here is some inspiration for you.  I had WLS and my DH didn't.  He's been eating very similar to what I eat. If I'm having 3-5oz of something he's eating about 8-12oz.  I've lost 60lbs and he 50lbs.  So don't worry about the portions right now.  Focus on not eating filler foods, carby foods, or slider soft foods.

Return to a protein first diet.  We eat meat, eggs, cheese primarily.  That might sound boring but you can eat all kinds of meats, jerky, bacon, pepperoni and lots of different cheeses.  I'm never bored and shopping is easy!  Work hard to eliminate the other foods.  Stop with things with sugar, rice, potatoes and unnecessary things.

If you do the meat diet you'll start eating less and I bet you'll be loosing next week :-)
