Nightmares

Is anyone else having nightmares post surgery?  I am now I guess 5 days post op and just woke woke up from an hour and a half of sleep at 1 am with heaving sobs from my 3rd night in a row with nightmares.   I am not getting more then 2 hours at a time as it is.... And I fall asleep to the sounds of rain on a white noise app.... So I'm not going to sleep under stressful situations... But waking up all tense from dream screaming... Or in tonight's case sobbing... Is starting to hurt my belly!

Sorry for the weird post... The rest of my house is sleeping and I needed to get it out so I can stop crying and go back to sleep!

Hi Danna,

Be careful to get your liquids in earlier than bedtime and also focus on yourself as much as you can.  Think it will pass!

Anesthesia I'm betting. Walk and drink lots when you are awake to clear it all from your system.

Don't worry, everything will be alright!! Just relax and read some good books, listen to music, watch funny movies, etc. before going to bed.

It might be a side effect of pain killers also. Can you get by with just Tylenol at night?

Second this. If you're on narcotic pain meds, they can seriously mess with your brain.

I get them from certain pain pills...

I've been taking the tramadol every 4 hours up to 11 last night.  When my alarm went off for 3 this morning I decided against taking more.   I'm not in super amounts of pain... I would say more tension feeling then a pain at this point...

I haven't taken any of the other drugs they gave.. There is one stronger.. And the children's Tylenol is disgusting.   How long does it take for anaesthesia to leave our system?

I'm drinking plenty of water... At least 12 8 oz glasses a day... I feel like I should just be attached to an iv of water at this point

Thank you to those *****plied!  I appreciate your thoughts so much!

I am so glad you asked this questions.  I thought I was going crazy.   I had them for about 2 weeks after surgery.  They were all very vivid and unsettling.  I would wake up with my heart racing.  I'm almost at 4 weeks and no problems now.  It will pass.

I have almost hallucinogenic nightmares with some pain medications.
