Cake in our office contributes obesity

I don't bring in food for the office. I think it's degrading to bring in donuts/pizza for adults who dedicate the better part of 40 years to a profession. Pizza and donuts are for 5th graders... Not professionals. I will take part in the holiday pot luck-- but that's about it. I'll buy employees a small gift card to a convienence store- or for coffee etc and let them pick thier own poison.

I'm known to bring my lunch-so they just don't include me in ordering food etc.

So true. I want to treat myself to lunch/dinner sometime (probabably after my 19 mile long run on saturday. I will feel "deserving" and entitled then). A restaurant nearby has an heirloom tomato salad with buffalo mozzerella on their menu. I can also get a nice red wine to go with it. To me, THIS is a party/treat for ADULTS.

I work with a bunch of 20-30-something healthy workout addicts. There is rarely food in our kitchen, and luckily for me, the kitchen is on the other side of the floor.. we used to have a few older *** my age ha!) women that would bake things all the time. Thank goodness that was long before I decided to have WLS

Our company really pushes a healthy culture. About time I started to get on board!

Our company really pushes it too, for outsiders who they insure (I work for one of the largest insurers in Ohio), they just don't practice what they preach.

Kudos to those of you who bring healthy options for your employees to eat. For the rest of us, we do not have to eat the unhealthy food brought in or left in the break room.

We often have working lunches during teacher inservice days. Yes, it would be nice if they gave us healthy choices and I have suggested that they do so, but I usually bring my lun*****ase it is unhealthy. I do not get angry or throw a temper tantrum.

We are in charge of what we eat. Period. This is a big lesson we have to learn in order to lose the weight and keep it off.

I haul around protein shakes in mason jars. I freeze them the night before and I have either something spoonable (so I have the hand to mouth gestures like everyone else) or if it is super hot, a cool drink.

I never ate at work, I have RH and eating cake made me sickkkkk and was sure to plunge my blood sugar.  I very rarely ever eat cake, it's really just too sweet.  And I don't actually miss it.  I always read the dessert menu at dinner, pick out my choice, eat my dinner and my husbands asks if I am gonna get the dessert I chose earlier and I say if course not.  It's a game I play with myself.  It's like I can eat anything I want but I won't.  Occasionally I eat fruit based desserts.

I used to work as an administrative assistant and the pharmaceutical reps would bring in SO MUCH food it was ridiculous.

Now I work in HR and I never, ever bring in food. But people are always bringing in bagels, donuts, etc for meetings with clients or along those lines. I have to walk by them in the kitchen at least once a week. It bothered me for a while when I first started here after my surgery but then I figured that it was just strengthening my will power. I've never broken once.

But I don't bring in any food for the employees - I know people really enjoy to have food as a reward but I feel uncomfortable forcing my choices on them, and who am I to tell them they can't have donuts as their reward?

Most offices celebrate events with food/beverages etc.  As adults we have the responsibility to look after ourselves and make proper decisions as to eat the stuff or not.  It is not our job to dictate and to be annoyed if some of the staff eat cake etc.  We all have to remember - we did not get overweight by eating the occasional piece of cake at work.
