I have been researching surgery and am a lottle worried about that... hope they let you make payments after surgery?? I see some places make you pay it all up front.

Good thing is, insurance gets a discounted rated.  They do not pay the hospital for that much.  It is crazy, but before surgery my insurance probably hated me from all my medical bills.  $125,000 for one stay, for a cellulitis, sepsi infection from diabetes!

My bill was 57K. Poor insurance company. Lol. But I figure they are saving money in the long run.

That may be what the hospital and surgeon billed your insurance company (using their charge master), but it is unlikely that is what the insurance company will pay.  If you used a plan hospital, they will only pay the contracted rate, which is generally much less.

HOw about hanging that bill on the fridge to use it as a motivator.

Alot of money was spent to make you thin, now don't fail the surgery. Follow your surgeons plan and work it.

Seriously, what you are about to go through is really tough. There will be times when you will need motivation, things to steel yourself with, things to bring you back to WHAT YOU BELIEVE WAS IMPORTANT. The cheese, sugar, CRACKers, bread, they will try to tell you that your desire to get healthy isn't as pressing as THEM.

It is coming, and sounds like that bill could be useful.

For my revision to DS with a 5 night hospital stay it was 160k! I was self pay so they gave me a discount, I "only" paid 24k. How does that even make sense?

that's just a rough estimate or cash price. your insurance has a negotiated rate that they will work through with the dr and the hospital, then you will see number drop dramatically!
