Almost one week since surgery

One week out from surgery, the only exercise I did was some light walking (I also had a hernia repair during surgery) to help dissipate the gas pain from surgery. I didn't have much pain one week post-op, but I would get very tired very easily. My advice, your body is still in major recovery, even if you feel pretty good...take it slow! I made the mistake of feeling good and doing too much and then bam! all of a sudden I'd feel awful because I over-did it, so take it slow, let your body heal, and enjoy this time of just taking it easy and focusing on recovery!  (I'm 5 months post-op, btw)

  1. Walk.  Although I could only manage short distances, I would walk several times per day.
  2. I didn't take any pain meds once I came home from the hospital.
  3. Make sure that you get all of your fluids in.  Don't worry about the protein.  It's more important to stay hydrated, especially now in the summer.

I'm almost 6 weeks out.  I was full of energy.  I walked around the nurses station every hour at the hospital.  They had little magnetic sneakers to pick up and put on your door so your doctor/nurse could see how often you walked.  When I got home I only used the pain meds for 3 days.  2 weeks later I was mopping the kitchen floor, vacuuming and dusting.  I went back to work after 10 days.  I felt and still do feel great.
