So, I am feeling nervous. Today I meet with my Dr. to set up my surgery date. I've done the 6 mos of nutrition appointments, Psych evaluation, test for sleep apnea. getting approved by my insurance and losing the initial weight they asked me to before surgery. Now, I'm feeling like it's finally happening and I am a little afraid of the unknown. I have been on this sight for 6 months quietly reading and taking in all the great advice being given and the wonderful outcomes after the surgery and not so great outcomes. So, I guess what I am asking is, what is your advice on a wonderful outcome vs. the not so great outcome. I'm thinking it's as easy as listening to what the Dr tells you to do, but I am guessing it's not as easy as that or they would all be great outcomes.

Please give me your advice on how to have a wonderful outcome after surgery and what to expect as far as paing and drinking the liquids the first and second week of post op.

I would appreciate any input you may have.

First I want to wish you good luck with your doctor visit and surgery. Second, I know you are asking for advise from others that have had surgery and I will admit that I have not had surgery yet. However, I have taken care of many bariatric patients over the last 10 years as a nurse. In my experience with the patients I took care of many times the problems that would bring them back to the hospital was not following the diet or food recommendations. I think if you follow the recommended diet phases after surgery, take recommended vitamin supplements, protein and fluids that will be the best things you can do to help in your healing process and surgical success.

Shannon - Thank you so much for your response. I will do exactly as they tell me as I am so fearful of doing anything outside of what they tell me since I don't want to end back where I am today and also don't want anything to deter by feeling better after surgery

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery and getting your date

I didn't see what type of surgery you are having?  You have done the classes and should know by now exactly what to do, eat per your surgeon's plan for you.  Follow his/her plan and you will be successful.  Post this on your surgery type forum (click forums and then your type) and those that had what you are going to have will be able to give you support during your journey.

Let us know if there is anything else we can do to help/support you
