That's an asshole attitude I didn't expect.  What are they?  Little people below you?

I'm more shocked that 5 other ******** liked your post ...  sheesh

Why is that an asshole response? It's someone's  job.  It doesn't make it beneath me. I just expect to get a service I've paid for.

I don't slice my own meat at the deli counter, either. That also is not beneath me. But it is likewise someone's job.

Airports sometimes give you money back for returning their carts to the rack. They do that because it's not your job as a traveler to return carts. Maybe supermarkets can adopt the same strategy.

We'll never agree on this.  I think it's an asshole attitude, you think it's your right as a customer.  Never thought of you like this, but I suppose we learn something every day.  My ***** fest would be people who don't pack their groceries, but wait until they've all been rung up and the person on the till does it for you.  I'd lay a bet that's you too.  I'm not too good to pack my groceries or return my cart, if there's noone available or willing to do it.

Probably a good thing that we're not FB friends - you'd hate my bleeding heart liberal beliefs, I'm sure, and I like me a lot

ETA:  I polled the only other verbalAmerican in my home, in case this was cultural and he said he would pack his groceries IF there was a line behind him because "he's not an ass" and takes his cart to the corral because it's rude not to - doesn't get why people expend twice as much energy to hoist it up the curb than it does to walk 10 yards to the corral.

I always pack my own groceries. But there is one store I no longer give my business to because they have few lanes open, and seldom have baggers. I prefer to spend my money someplace that doesn't have ****ty service.

Maybe it's regional, but I would say at least 90 percent of the shoppers in my neck of the woods just leave the carts next to their car. And there are no curbs.

How is returning a cart part of a liberal system of belief? If you were a real liberal, like me, you'd stop taking jobs away from people that need them. Jobs are more important than some false sense of courtesy. Courtesy which, after all, is just an illusion created by a business to make more money.

Your meaning of liberal is interesting.  I suppose I always think that believing others should serve you personally and not just as instructed by their employers is more to the right of liberal.  Gotta love a bit of entitlement lol.   I think you are talking more of union demarcation - one of the more stupid union rules that has led to their wide demise.  Tell the 1970s I said hello

You do you, but don't be surprised if I'm not alone in thinking it's strange to think that a supermarket OWES you more than they are willing to provide

There are several supermarket chains in Canada that require you to insert a quarter into a slot to get a shopping cart.  You get your quarter back when you place the shopping cart back and connect it with the other carts.  There is talk of increasing this to a dollar coin instead of a quarter.

Actually you don't pay for them to return carts, you pay for your groceries, the store pays their employees to put it back & they may or may not have enough people to return the carts. You don't get a surcharge or a discount on your grocery bill based on whether or not you put it back or not. Some stores do give a discount if you bring your own bag & on the same account will charge extra for giving you a bag to put your groceries in, don't be surprised if they do the same thing for shopping carts.

I put the cart back, I took it from the coral it was in, I put it back, same thing if I bought something in one part of the store & changed my mind about buying it, I put it back, sure someone, someday will put it back., or I can do it myself, nothing is more irritating than to look for an item especially if it's the last one & it's in another part of the store just because  someone was too lazy to put it back.

I hate shopping carts all over the parking lot because I feel that's an accident waiting to happen.

Airports do it because they want your return business, they charge for the extra luggage to put on the plane, they more you have the more they charge, it's not big deal for them to help you take money out of your pocket to put into theirs. If you travel light, they don't charge you & you're more likely to carry your bags onto the plane.
