Happy, happy day!!

Today is my 9 year cancerversary - I m cancer was a particularly aggressive form of breast cancer (triple negative) which is more common in young women which makes sense since I was 25 when I was dx. With that form the recurrence rate is super high between 3-5 years out and then once you get to 8 years out it lowers to almost zero. So I pretty much held my breath to 8 years and was terrified all the time - and then right around 7 years out I had a huge gyno cancer scare which is what led to me having RNY surgery.

Which leads me to today - I always choose to celebrate the anniversary. Because I'm still alive and I have many friends who've passed away from cancer in the last nine years and for some reason I'm still here. So I try to be thankful every day but reflect a lot on this day. Between getting past the 8 years mark and having the surgery my cancer risk is the lowest it's ever been! That makes me SO happy, I can't quite describe it.

On top of that, my official weigh in day is Monday but I couldn't help weighing myself today - I'm 4 pounds from my official goal weigh I gave myself at the beginning. I really wanted to make it by today but oh well. BUT I discovered that I am no longer obese according to BMI! Holy **** that's an amazing feeling! I'm only overweight :)

Happy Day!

What wonderful news, Melinda!! I'm so happy for you. My best friend is undergoing chemo right now and while her prospects look very good, it certainly does make you stop and think about how precious life is.

Congratulations!!
