Fantasizing about food :(

I have fantasied about food.  I have a Pinerest board that has nothing but recipes...I call it my food porn.  But seriously I have learned to deal with it.  I have learned to either have small portions of what I love or replace it with something that satisfies me.  Right now I am in love with turkey burgers.  I eat it open faced and take off the top bun.  Some places make a damn good turkey burger.  I don't miss burgers any more.  As for fries...well with my band I can only eat a few and I feel full.  So I literally will eat about 2-3 fries and that will satisfy me but not stuff me.

For about the first 3 weeks or so after surgery I thought about food all the time, I craved everything.  I even dreamed about it at night.  Once I was able to eat more solid foods it subsided somewhat.  I enjoy a nice cheeseburger (half of one with no bun) once a week or so and it is FANTASTIC.  I have become more creative in ways to make things I like in a bariatric friendly way (zoodles are my new favorite food).  It will get better, but I suspect as others have said it will be a life long struggle for some of us.

I am 15 months post op and don't really post much but wanted to share this. I am at my goal which to some is still on the heavy side but I feel good and my hubby thinks I look fantastic so it is what it is, and a lot depends on how much wine I let myself enjoy. I weigh myself every second day and record it to watch my progress and stay on track. I am back riding my bike and bought a kayak recently which has been on my bucket wish list. I still sometimes struggle with portions and some foods still just do not go well but mostly I eat what I want but just much less. My love affair with food was so out of control I woke up in the morning and my first thought was what am I going to make for my lunch and diner! Which once I started I ate and ate and ate. I was never full. I could eat my husband under the table, I could not stop myself.

I do still morn some foods, especially steak but I really handle prawns and seafood well so I make that for myself if I'm feeling deprived. Remember it is a journey, you didn't get to the weight you are at in a few months and this will take a few months for you to adjust too to the new you. You will likely loose a lot of hair at the 50 lb mark but it will grow back so please don't panic. Please just remember to listen to your body, stay with the protein shakes, cream soups, yogurt, pureed fruit and remember to take your vitamins!!! B12 and a good multi Gummie for women worked for me. Good luck and don't worry if i can do it anyone can.

Such a great post. At a year out I look at other people eating and wonder how they can eat so much and not be huge and wonder why I never could. No I don't want to eat like them but I do think it would have been great if I could have done so. Protein first is getting boring and I feel restless food wise so it is time to come up with some new recipes. I guess many of us will "fight with food" forever but it is great to have people here who understand and will help us along the way.
