VSG or RNY

Hi guys! I will talk more with my dr about this but just wondering what you think.

I tend not to eat loads, but from time to time I do binge eat.

But my busy scedule+general depression is making it kind of difficult to eat.

Would a vsg or rny be better for me? I am leaning to a vsh but I'm not sure now.

Thanks for the help

:)

Actually neither surgery will work for you till you get help for the binge eating & depression. Surgery works on our stomachs not our head. Don't get me wrong, both surgeries will help you get the weight off, but it'll be much easier when your head is in the right place not only to get the weight off, but keep it off as well.

My depression is genetic, it runs through both sides of my family.

I am living with it, but at times I get serious bouts of depression, which affects my everyday life, causing my binge eating, or other things.

It's not as simple as getting in the right headspace because it's something I'll simply live with forever. No amount of weight loss will change that. It's something that my doctors are aware of, but I think it's highly unfair for you to assume that I'm not getting help with my mental illnesses.

I know people who have the surgery and have binge eating problems and depression as well, the surgery has worked wonderfully for them and they are well on track.

For many people, depression and eating disorders are more than our heads being in the wrong space, you know?

I don't know that you're getting treatment for your bed & depression. If you are, that's good, but yes you do have to be in the right headspace as far as wls & choosing what's best for you.

Surgery won't cure bed, I just wanted you to be aware of that, look at this thread & you'll understand why.

As long as you're getting treatment then do as much research as possible about the vsg & rny. You'll have to look back at your dieting history & figure out if you were able to lose weight just by restricting the amount you ate, or if every pound was a struggle. You might need more of a metabolic boost that the rny & ds provides. You also have to be aware that if you have gerd, the vsg makes it worse.

Good Luck in whatever you choose to do.
