1 week out with questions

Hey guys. First question. Is it normal to stall in the first week? Before you say "be patient" I should point out that I am not concerned about the number on the scale this early. But my surgeon said I would see significant loss the week after my surgery. Will he think I am doing it wrong? I see him Wed and as of today, I have lost 5, possibly 6 lbs. Which to me is alot for a week! But the is the scale didnt move for 3 days. It said 259.4. I wasn't worried. Today it was 258.8 and that made me happy.

How was it for you your first week?

Second question. The inguinal hernia Doc found is really bothering me. I can feel things moving around that arent supposed to and it hurts. Trying to stay away from pain meds. But the hernia makes me want to take them. Anything I can do? I'm going to ask the surgeon at my appt, just wondering if anyone else had that type of hernia and how did you deal?

Ps. I can't believe I am finally post op and on the losers bench!

I lost 11lbs the first week, and then didn't lose anything for 3 1/2 weeks. Sometimes people gain the first week from all the IV fluids etc.

Welcome to the losers bench!

Hmm it's nice to see how everyone's numbers are so different! I mean they say don't compare but you can't help yourself when its new lol. At least I can't. But I do know it's my journey, and my journey is different from others' journeys.

Gosh I bet you were mad at that scale those three weeks lol.

Yes, I thought I would lose my mind...the Doc kept saying to me "I am not worried, you will lose the weight".... Would I be the only one this didn't work for????

In the end I see it as a blessing as it helped me to change mindsets.... While nobody likes a stall, I was able to take them more in stride after that, and often found after a stall there would be a big weight loss week...I also weigh myself daily and record once a week, -still do- and helped me with the mindset of not freaking out over every fluctuation. Occasionally I still have to talk myself off the ledge -in my mind- but not as much fear.

Good Luck!

I've lost a lot the 1st week but only because I couldn't eat for 4 days. I lost 11 but 6 is really good! I couldn't eat because I had horrible has pains. Any time I ate food it felt like I was dying. I'm on day 2 of actually eating. I think ur number sound good!

I think he'll see you're doing your best, and it'll be fine. He has to know that not everyone will lose at the same rate per week, or lose the same way.

I haven't heard of that type of hernia, but hopefully he'll repair it at some point. Definitely address it with him tomorrow. He needs to know it hurts and tell you what your options are.

If you were further out, and healed...I'd suggest shape wear or a binder to help support your muscles, but that's probably not the best idea at the moment. That may be another thing to ask him about.

Audrey,  I was thinking the same thing, but youre right it probably would hurt since I'm only a week out.  Btw inguinal hernias are in the groin. Its so far down there I dont think a belly wrap would work but there may be something he can suggest. Ive had problems with that area since I was thirteen. Ultrasounds, medications to shrink possible cysts on my ovaries in case that was it, and was even told it was just plain scar tissue from my PCOS. All these years and not one person thought of a hernia? My surgeon said bc of where it is, there's no way to tell unless I was IN surgery with a camera exposing the problem.

Eh. At least I know what it is now! Thanks for the advice. I feel better. I am definitely trying my best. Not getting anywhere near what he wants me to get in, but its slowly improving and I won't starve in the amount of time it takes me to figure things out, lol.

I meant to look up the type of hernia and got distracted shiny stuff on my computer screen...haha.

I hope he can help you get the hernia issue resolved.

You'll definitely get there with the numbers.
