Swimming three weeks post-op?

I was told I could do swimming and tub baths after the scabs from my incisions have completely healed and fallen off.

Please call your surgeon and ask.  He may not even want you to go on the boat.  Anything can happen and you could accidently fall in.

I was also told no swimming or baths for 6 weeks, check with your doctor.

I wouldn't risk it.

I had more than a few moments in the first few months when I was really wobbly and lightheaded. It would be awful if you got woozy and fell, or had something else happen!

Like others have mentioned, I'd also be very worried about bacteria in the water. A hot bath with soap is one thing, lake amoebas are another thing entirely.

Thank you for all the good advice. A bacteria or amoeba party in my gut doesn't sound like fun!  A couple of my incisions are still at the scab stage, so I'll wait on the swimming. When I had my gallbladder out last summer, the surgeon said no swimming for the whole season, and that was with just half the number of incisions. I'd rather play it safe than have to deal with an infection from lake water.

HELL NO! Six weeks is pretty standard for any incisions to give them time to completely heal up to insure you don't have and chance of contracting an infection. This would be especially so for a lake. Don't even take a chance. Have a great time in the boat though. Sounds         like a blast!!! Rich

I don't think I  would risk it.  You really do not know what kinds of micro organisms are going to be hanging out in tha****er.   Check with the surgeon's office to be sure since perhaps I am too cautious..
