Hello lovely people,

I'm having VSG on July 7th and I really don't know what to pack. I would appreciate any suggestions.

I wasn't in the mood for much. All I used were underwear, tooth brush/tooth paste, going home clothing  (pjs), my phone, and a notebook. I took a book and my laptop but never touched them. Spent my time watching tv, trying to drink fluids and walking.

Don't bring devices (kindle, laptop, whatever) you probably wont use it. I brought my kindle thinking I would be bored and want to read something...I was so tired I just wanted to sleep and my eyes could not focus on a screen to read anyway! I'm glad I brought my own memory foam pillow for the hospital bed (and helped for the car ride home too). Chapstick, loose fitting clothing to go home in. Other than that, didn't really use anything else. All I did was drink fluid, walk, pee, and try to sleep.

I brought my laptop and in between walking/naps I watched probably 5 movies on it, was so thankful I had it

I brought my kindle and never once touched it, cant imagine reading that or a book... way too drugged up lol

Take your phone, charger, and a long extension cord to charge it.  You will want to take a pair of slippers and chapstick.

I would add earplugs to the list.

I also watched movies on my iPad and read my book.  I stayed in the hospital gown so just needed clothes to go and come home in.  Other items were toothbrush, hairbrush, earplugs, and pillow.

Underwear! While they were a bit of a pain to get off when having to pee, I was very grateful for having them for walking in the halls or just sitting around IMO feels weird without them.  As soon as I got back from my first walk I had mine on.  I didn't have to stay over night so make sure that you will have to.  I packed a back pack though just in case I'd need to stay plus I put the clothes I wore into the hospital in it while I was being worked on.  Honestly I wasn't bored, the nurses stop in a lot, I spent time talking to my husband, walking around the nurses station and peeing.  So the time in between I laid in bed and sat up in a recliner they had.  I was drugged enough I didn't feel bored.  I was there for a 5:30am surgery and then staid until 4pm that day.  By the time I was done in recovery and in my room it was noon.  I wasn't really alert until about 2pm and then I got to work on walking and peeing so I could leave, which was my choice to stay or go and I felt up to going so they let me check out.

Most important thing?  Lip balm.  You will need it.
