Migraines

So it dawned on me the other day... when I have a migraine, I pop 800MG of ibuprofen when the light aura's start, head home, and go to sleep... when I wake up I'm drained, slightly nauseous, but the worst is gone.

I get light aura migraines... small lights start in my eyes, that grow and temporarily blind me slightly, and as they move out this THUMPING headache and nausea set in... if I do what I said above, it's cut down tremendously.

Thankfully the migraines slowed way down after my hysterectomy 3 years ago and I think I've only had maybe 6 since then...

But what do I do now???

Who has migraines, and how do you deal with them??

I have the exact same type of migraines as you.  Prior to my RNY my treatment was the same as yours (Ibuprofen).  Since surgery I have only had a couple of migraines.  I successfully treated them with 2 extra strength acetaminophen at the first warning sign.

How often do you have them? There are some medications that are used for prevention, such as Topamax, that seem to work fairly well for some people.

I use to get migraines that would make my left side of the face hurt so much that my eye would half close and i would get tingling sensations in my face. Nothing worked. They dr's would give me vicodin, muscle relaxers and sometimes even pain medication injections. I was looking into Botox prior to my WLS as i needed something to control those migraines. I haven't had a migraine since WLS, however i do get tension headaches. My go is to take a hot shower and let the water beat down on the back of my head, apply ice and take excedrin Tension medicine because it does not contain any asprin then lay down and usually within 30 -60 mins it's gone. Prior to WLS surgery these could last a week :(

These types of pains are for the birds. Hopefully you can get yours taken care of. I would recommend you see your Dr as there are some good migraine medications out there to take.
