France or WLS

So I'm looking at this from another angle, I think you will have an easier time getting a job after graduation if you get your surgery done in January. Size discrimination is a very real thing.

Can you have surgery while your family goes to France? Or maybe push back the France trip till summer?

Find out what your surgeon expects for pre-op diet. In both WLS I have had (band and DS) there was no requirement for weeks of liquid diets beforehand. I had my first surgery a few days after getting back from a long overseas vacation, and the other I travelled across the world for. If there isn't, go to France then come back and do the surgery. (Just make sure they're aware of the fact you've just done some long-haul flying!)

I'd be more concerned with leaving yourself some time before you have to get back into it. I had two weeks off work, then a week at 50%, then a week at 75% before I was back on board. I was also lucky to be my own boss, so able to manage around my own needs.

I'd say go to France & enjoy the time with your family, then come back & do the surgery. Give yourself more time than a week, you won't know how quickly you'll be back on your feet. I think it'll be too hard to concentrate on school & healing, eating right etc, I mean it might depend on the kind of classes you take too, maybe go part time?

Besides you might be able to do a great b4 & after type of thing with the France trip now & the future trip afterwards.

No one surgery is better than the other, what works for one may not work for another. T-Rebel

I felt great a week after surgery, and needed an afternoon nap for another couple of weeks. I agree You would have a better time getting a job after school if you have the surgery. I wouldn't postpone getting on with my life for a trip. This is too important.

A week of downtime isn't nearly enough time before school starts. I took 8 weeks off of work, and didn't start feeling like myself until I was 6 weeks post op.  If it were me, I'd skip France.
