Hello All! I know I just asked a question a few days ago, but here I am again. So currently my surgeon is hoping to preform surgery around the first week of January. However, my family is planning to travel to France for three weeks until Jan 2. I'm wondering, do you think I should still go to France or should I stay home or should I push back surgery? I'm talking to my surgeon next week so I'll ask his opinion then. I'm just wondering how doable the pre op diet would be? Also, not going to lie, I'm worried I'll be too fat for everything in France. Another factor is that I will only have a week after surgery till I have to go back to school. Is that doable? Sorry for the long post!

I'm sure you'll get posts for both. I'm sure most of them will be to do surgery now because of various reasons.

I would go to France, if it was me. Surgery will still be there when you get back. Who knows when the next trip to France could be with your family, you know?

Depends on what you do in France, but you should be fine. I went just before my wedding when I weighed my lowest weight and had a blast (was around 240?). Wife (fiancee at the time) rented bikes and rode everywhere around Paris and absolutely loved it.

Also depends on your preop diet... If its liquid, that would be hard and a total bummer to not be able to enjoy yourself there, so I'd maybe stay... or push surgery back a little further to just have liquid preop when you get home

I was absolutely EXHAUSTED for at least a month after surgery, healing pain aside. So that may be one thing to consider.

That is a important thing to consider. I would have to go back to school around Jan 12th so I'm sure I would be super exhausted. My only thing is if I didn't get it January I would have to wait till summer because of school. I would love to be healthy weight for my senior year of college, but if I have to wait till summer, oh well. Decisions, decisions.

I took 1 week off from work, but I sit at a desk, and had flexible hours if I needed them. If you are going to have to walk the campus for classes, that could be cutting it close.

Talk to your doctor and see what he thinks about moving your surgery back just a bit, or maybe he'll think you'll be OK to go as it is set!

My campus is small but in the winter in can be pretty bad, so you're right: definitely something I have to consider. It's just hard because I've been working on getting the surgery process going for almost six months. I hate having to push back the date. I've had 21 years of being overweight so I just want to have the surgery, ya know? But I guess, long run, what's six more months? Thanks for the advice

How about they go to france and you have the surgery.

A lot of people struggle post-op wiht the liquid diet and their "supportive" family chooses to eat "their" or the family's favorite foods in front of them.

They would be gone, you dont have to worry about the smell of pizza driving you over the edge and eating and ripping your pouch..

I had a trip to Paris planned and pushed my surgery back so that it would be after that.  I didn't want to go to Paris with a fresh bypass.  I'm pretty predictable with my answer.  Go to France, and then have surgery!
