Patch MD update
I know people always want to know results and if they are working. Been on the Patch Multivitamin 5 months.
Got some bloodwork back today and all seems steady and good.
A few points:
Vitamin D- I have been Vit D deficient for over a decade pre-WLS. I finally started taking a liquid Vit D supplement and take 20,000mg a day just to get myself in the bottom range of normal. Without changing that dosage and adding the patch, I am now at 86 in a range of 30-100. So I am absorbing the vitamin D from the patch. Very excited about this. Have never had a Vit D this high.
B-12- I was taking 2000mg B-12 sublingually daily prior to the patch. I need to be at the high end of normal or high or I start to get symptoms even though I never bottom out into deficient. When I started the patch- because it has B-12 in it I cut back to one 1000mg sublingual. Well my B-12 has held steady at 1100. So again I am absorbing the B-12 from the patch.
Just a note, I had 2 plastic surgeries this spring and Surgeon had told me to start taking extra iron which I did. Bariatric Doc had told me I didn't really need more iron because I was post-menopausal. Glad I did ... Serum iron is 57 out of a range of 50-212, and ferritin is 64 out of range of 10-291. I don't think if I hadn't been taking the extra iron those numbers would have been that good.
All in all happy with the patch.

I'm glad to hear such good results with the patch. Although I can take the cheapie - yucky big pink pills now, for the first few months after surgery, PatchMD saved me - I was was slightly sick after each vitamin pill. I had good labwork results with the patches, but I saw that for some reason PatchMD could longer state that their vitamins exceeded ASMBS guidelines.
I still rotate to the patches from time to time.

Valerie, can you say anything about how DSers have done with Patch vitamins? I'm curious to see if you still need large doses of various things. DSers would seem to be the best test of how good they are.

We've got a Facebook group that is using them and reporting back. So far, it's looking very promising. Since they are absorbed transdermally into the bloodstream with no malabsorption through digestion, we shouldn't need any more than anyone else. I've been on them for a year straight now, and due for bloodwork, so I'll have a good idea of how they're working for me real soon.

I'd appreciate it if you'd let me know how your labs go. If they work for you, it says a lot. Though I wish there were some actual medical studies.
