Hi All,

I'm on day #3 post surgery and I was allowed 2-4 TBS. of oatmeal today.  That was great.  However, I'm still on full liquids and I"M GETTING HUNGRY.  I want/crave meat.  I'm drinking water and I'm walking.  I feel like I'm ready to chew my knuckles off.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.

Chew ice to satisfy the need to chew.

I always say when you are hungry for something in particular, you're not hungry... That's a craving/ head hunger.

oatemal may be good to transition to semi solids-- but remember it's carb heavy and low on protein.

Thank you.  The Oatmeal is very runny and it's only 2-4 TBS.  I did 3 TBS.  The rest of my meals are liquid Protein.  It's in my notebook for day 3, so I am following what they're telling me to do.    I'll be on this till day 10.

Are you taking a PPI?  Stomach acid can mimic hunger pangs.  If you're not taking on, call your surgeon's office and request a prescription.

At three days post surgery, your body isn't really hungry.  It's normal to suffer from head hunger.

Find ways to distract yourself from food.  I know.  Easier said than done.  Now it a great time to develop coping mechanisms to replace the urge to eat out of boredom or whatever.  Meditation, adult coloring books, etc., are some great options.  Have you starting using a food tracking app like My Fitness Pal?  It's a great tool to monitor what you eat during your weight loss.

It gets better.  I'm surprised that oatmeal was on your food plan since it's full of carbs.  I guess everyone's plan is different.

Hi there,

Yes, I'm taking Pepcid which I have to be on because I take Zerolto.  I'm glad to hear this is normal.  I think the main problem is everything I drink (i.e. Protein shakes) are sweet and I'm dying for something solid non sweet.  The oatmeal helped.  The oatmeal is in my notebook for day 3 that I got from the doctor's office.  2-4 Tbs. liquefied.  I'll be on this now till Day 10 then semi soft foods will be introduced..  Appreciate your response.  Thanks.

I think Pepcid is OTC, right?  I might not be strong enough.  If you find your pouch grumbling and think you're feeling physical hunger, a prescription PPI might work better for you.

I hear you on the non-sweet thing.  Have you considered trying the Unjury chicken soup or possibly broth?  It's liquid, savory and helps to take your mind off the sticky sweet shakes.

Yes, it's the Pepcid OTC that I'm taking.  I go for my f/u appointment on the 16th and I'll ask then for a RX for it.  Unjury chicken soup?  Never heard of it.  Where do you get it?  Health food stores?  Thanks

I got the quest multi purpose protein. I added it to cream of chicken soup (strained) and broth.

my plan allowed for cream of wheat which I did have for about a wee****il I could go on pureed.

Thank you for your response.  That's a great idea to add it to the soup.  Congratulations on your weight loss.

I just wanted to say Hi! I'm a boxer lover too! We have two, and we are currently also fostering one!

Everyone else had great advice... I'm almost 4 weeks out, and still working to get my foods straightened out. It does get better (and harder) when you can have pureed foods!
