What makes an OH member a "vet"?

Hi guys.

There has been a lot of talk lately about "vets".  Specifically related to certain interactions with  newer members.  I realized I don't have any idea what constitutes "vet" status here.  Is it long term success?  Long term membership on OH even if no weight has been lost? I would imagine a "vet" would be somewhat post op, but I know one very nice lady I consider at "vet" who is a non-op.

So I thought I'd ask.  I'd love to hear from pre-ops, post-ops, non-ops, revisions, lurkers, newbs - pretty much anyone who sees this post.  What does everyone think?

To me, a vet is someone who has lived this experience for at least five years and has remained cognizant of the best way to use their tool. They may not necessarily be at their goal weight, but are actively engaged in working their surgery.  By year five, most people have struggled in maintenance and have had a health issue that required them to be an advocate for themselves.  They realize the limits of their WLS and don't spout off platitudes or generalizations, as they recognize the value in being honest about what is required to be successful.

Vet is a subjective term, but generally it is post op WLS patient who is 5+ years po.   Others consider a vet someone 10 years out.   In addition to being so many years post op, it's a person who actively participates on the forum daily answering questions and assisting new members.

Yes, the participation part is key.  They just don't show up here randomly to post bikini shots of themselves when they need a little attention.

Drive-by postings too! A response to a single post every few months, and maybe a re-post of something they wrote ages ago.
