Really..

in my weight loss phase, cucumbers + tzaki; red peppers + tzahki, pickles and string cheese were my go to foods.

Many people see their loss slowing WAY down around the 5 or 6-month mark, so this isn't completely unheard of. We get spoiled at first when the scale moves every day in the first weeks and months; after that, 1-2lb per week average is healthy and normal. As your weight decreases, the number of calories your body needs also goes down.

Have you checked your blood sugar when you suddenly get hungry? Low sugar, or hypoglycemia, might be a cause, and would be worth asking your surgeon about.

No, haven't checked the blood sugar - haven't even thought of it actually. I go to my Dr. next month for my 6 month post op and they do lab work then so I will mention it to them.

I would lose the protein bar (those things are like 300 calories).

The string cheese, hard boiled egg are right on and that is what I did and STILL do.

Also consider-cucumber or zucchini cut into coins using Tzaki (a greek yogurt dip) as a dip.

Sometimes, when I am doing a long run (i.e. anything over 6 miles) I snack on a date every mile... Your body needs fuel to perform and keep going BUT you still need to keep yourself in a calorie deficit. All your body thinks is "I am starving and now you are making workout and starve more..."

Sounds good - but I think the protein bars are not very filling for some people - 3 hardboiled eggs may be close to the cal count of a protein bar. (not that you would eat 3, just for comparison.)

If your weight loss slows, the prot bars might be the first thing I would get rid of.

After reading Grim's post - I would ditch the prot bars now and eat real food as much as possible.  I, too, got the weight off ASAP and am happy I did.

I read too many posts from people who, at 2 years, write in that they never got to their goal weight and now gained 20-30 pounds and how can they lose 50 pounds by next month.

I don't know how fast yo are losing, but I never lost more than 12-15 pounds a month, but at 57, I may have been older than you are now.  I never weighed more than once a wee****il I reached goal - I knew I could never lose weight fast enough for my brain and daily weighing would drive me crazy.  But this is different for other people. IMHO - focus 100% on being 100% compliant to your surgeon's post-op instructions.  That is the best you can do and let the weight come off.

Get the weight off, as quick as you can. The VAST majority who increase calories too soon, whether it's because of working out or some other reason, waste this precious time and don't reach goal. You won't be healthier losing slower, you won't look better, have less excess skin, or anything else. You'll just stall sooner, and put yourself into maintenance sooner. You will end up kicking yourself.

I'm 6'3", did hard work every day, lost 290 pounds, and never touched 1,000 calories at 5 months. I lost just as fast as I could, and am so glad I did.

Cut back to 800 calories. Get rid of the weight while it's relatively easy. It gets a lot more difficult later on.

Typically I stay around 800, it's just that I noticed on the days that I work out I am more hungry and feel the need to eat a little more.

You can try this for a few weeks and see how your body reacts, but I would bet my life savings it's too many calories. By your ticker, you still want to lose 70 pounds. Cut back to 800. Your nutritionist will probably tell you 1000 is OK, but many of them know nothing about what it really takes to get to goal and stay here.

I have been a member of this community for almost 9 years now. I can probably count on one hand the number of people who ate that many calories at 5 months out who got to goal and remained there past year 3.

So would you say keep it under 800? I've been trying to concentrate on increasing my protein and today my cals are 829. I may not be able to get all of that in, but that's what the plan is. My protein today was 93, where last week my calories were down around 500 and protein in the 40's. I don't want to mess this up!
