DEXA SCAN & RMR Results!
This is so cool. I think that you are doing awesome. I just went back and compared your DEXA to mine. I find it fascinating that you are 3 inches taller than I am, but my lean mass is 117.95lbs. I've always been considered "stocky", even when I was thin years ago. I had a higher body fat percentage as well at 32.9%. My weight at the time was 175.8lbs, though I've lost close to 10lbs since that day. MY YA T-Score was 2.1, which she indicated was awesome, so yours being so much higher at 2.4 is awesome. The scale she gave me only goes up to 3 for that.
As for where I fall in the range for body fat percentage, the scale they gave me shows for age 40-59 females it's normal to be 23-34%. I find myself being at the higher end of normal, and that makes me feel good. I'm about 25lbs away from my goal weight, and I didn't change it, but I think that if I stopped at 150lbs and maintained there I'd be happy.
I also carry a lot of my fat around the middle, and I wish that I could change that somehow. I think it will have to be fixed with plastics next year, lol. Here is the scale that they provided me when I got the scan:
Thank you for your response. As the day moves along, I am feeling better about the results and I do believe that my goal weight is obtainable.
Yes,
I am feeling better as the day moves on! I use the treadmill here at the rec center. I walk 30 minutes at 5 mph. One rather muscular & fit young man asked, "How do you walk so fast when most of us run 5 mph?"
Didn't realize I was "moving" so fast!
"Ideal" weight can be misleading, esp. with the excess skin of typical post-WLSers, which can add 5-10 lbs. or even more, depending on EWL. Have you used one of those BMI calculators to calculate your BMI? They say that is a more important indicator of where one should be.
Frank talk about the DS / "All I ever wanted to be was thin, like that Rolling Stones dude ... "

My BMI is 27.5 based on today's weigh in of 171 pounds. My surgeon told me NOT to put much stock into the BMI since it was originally created for elite athletes. Based on the BMI chart, 155 pound would put me around 24.5. I do know 155 is a bit too low for me. I would start to look old for the sake of being smaller. I got no more fat left in the face!
I think 160 pounds is my ideal.
BMI does not take into account the muscle mass, so I think your dr is correct - BMI not that accurate when you get close to goal weight. BMI is OK when you are far away from goal and need an initial target.
