Your doctor should determine if you need more B12 (or anything else) after reviewing your blood work results. It seems like most surgeons do this at each appointment and adjust accordingly.

Yes, I have to go give blood for tests 3-5 days before each appointment...

I'm sure they'll look at that before they actually give me anything.

Mine doesn't. In fact I asked my surgeon when we would do lab work and he said oh no you need to just follow up with your primary care dr... I was thinking this fell more into his care plan but I guess not

Had my nutrition class last night, just make sure your lab write up includes enough. The lady teaching made it seem PCP only request  a handful of items to be checked, but bariatric patients should have many more.

I'd be happy to snap a photo of my blood work request when I get home for you

I know its been discussed a few times on here as well

Why shots?  Are you very deficient?  OTC sublinguals for pennies are perfectly adequate for most RNYers.

I don't know. And maybe because the other times that I've had B-12 it was in an injection form. Perhaps I only heard B12 and assumed it was injections... maybe it won't be.

In the olden days, B12 was thought to be best absorbed via injection.  In the last, I dunno.... 7-10 yrs, they've found that pill forms are effective too.   A few yrs. ago my B12 level was like 250, I started with the shots, but maybe 5 yrs. ago switched to pills.  Now, as of last week my B12 is like 1300, so the pills are working fine for me.  i don't do the sublingual either, just a tablet.

If you pinch your tummy fat and inject into that, then give it another extra pinch and jiggle as you pull the needle out, you can generally avoid bruising. I did this (per surgeon's instructions) and had zero bruising.

Also, make sure to check spelling and whatnot if you're doing a promotional post; it helps a bit with credibility if you're trying to promote yourself as an expert/coach/whatever:

  • "one's a nurse"
  • "just as it's supposed to."
  • "that's me"
  • "having a shot in, say, the..."
