Softgels

I have recently been diagnosed with macular degeneration and my retina specialist highly recommends taking an eye vitamin called AREDS 2 which only comes in softgels. When I had my surgery back in 2001..I understood my pouch couldn't absorb softgels/gelcaps. I have been reading some articles that are telling me that the softgels are specifically designed to be digested in the small intestine..which I fully have. I reckon my question is..what are the recommendations today regarding softgels?

Have a beautiful day, and thank you.

My surgeon advised me to first pierce them with a pin and then take them with a warm liquid.

I looked up the science on this, and it seems like the ingredients are all things you could get from other supplements: Vitamins C and E, Lutein, Zinc, and Copper.

I looked around and found one version that has them in caplets, rather than softgels. Maybe that would be an option?
