IKEA has a set of rainbow colored plates with edges all around.  I LOVE them, eat everything on them unless we have company and then I use big girl plates.

Learn to throw food away.  It's okay.  No one will starve because you tossed some food.  And buy smaller cans.

But, seriously, unless you're buying 32 or 64 oz cans of whatever, it's not going to last long enough to justify all the fuss.  And if it goes bad in the fridge, feed it to the dog or the garbage.

This is really great advice.  One of the hardest things I'm learning to do is to throw food away.  I am from the "clean your plate" generation and it's probably one reason why I overeat.  We need to stop putting such high values on food that throwing it away seems like a crime.

A can of refried beans is what?  $1.50 per can?

Same here... I would always have to clear my plate, but then once I did parents would give me more assuming I was hungry instead of doing what was told. Used to hate being at friends houses for dinner where I'd clear my plate, then they'd give me another plate of food. Dont get me wrong, I love to eat but I hated being made to feel I had to :P

Plate Cleaner Club member here as well.  It's BS really.  A fitness trainer I had one said "don't pay for it twice".  She said you can order anything, eat what you want and then toss the rest guilt free.  You pay for it once.  However if you eat what you and then finish the plate just to clean it, the extra calories are stored as fat and then you have to get it off you somehow such as exercising and that's paying for it twice.

Of course you can save the left overs if it's easy, but my new motto is I bought this food and I can eat it, save it, or toss it but I'm not eating the extra just because my mom made me clean my plate for years.
