Esophageal pain/strange sensation

Hello all! I am six years out with a gastric bypass and have lost about 130 pounds. I have done remarkably well with the surgery, although this last six months has been challenging  in that I found a snack food that I really like and have been munching far too much. I gained about 14 pounds over the winter but I'm working on dropping it again.

The last few weeks I have had heartburn fairly regularly. Starting this past Friday I began having a weird sensation and it is quite painful when I eat or drink, it feels like there is a hole in the right of my esophagus and the food and drink is sliding out that hole instead of going into my stomach. when I swallow things will go down to about my breastbone and then veer off to the right, it is most  noticeable when I am drinking something hot like tea, it feels like I am being burned. I am having a very uncomfortable feeling that I think is heartburn as well. I can't eat or drink comfortably at all. Anyone have any ideas?

I'm only 5 ish months out and started having burning pain under my left side about a month 1/2 ago. Ended up being an ulcer and I was treated with meds. The pain wrapped around to my back and I actually thought my back was having a flare up

I would contact surgeon and get in to be seen.

Any time you've got weird or unexplained pain, it's a good idea to call your surgeon. On one hand, it could be some sort of heartburn, in which case the doctor can recommend a medication. On the other, it could be something more serious and the surgeon could want further investigation.

Either way, it's best to get it checked out sooner rather than later, lest things get worse!

If you've already have this pain for a few weeks - it's time to see a dr.  If you can;t get to your surgeon, you need to find a new one.

Good luck, but I think you've long enough

It could be several things, none of which are good. Get in to see your doc ASAP.
