Nascobol is supposed to come out with vit pills (NON CHEWS) for bariatric patients

I did the Walk From Obesity and the Nascobol Vitamin Rep was there --she said Nascobal was coming out with vitamins in July that did not need to be chewed. They are for people more than ~8 weeks post surgery.

If you have a Rx ins plan - you can prob get all your vitamins for one co-pay per month (Multi, calc, iron and nasal B12) through Nascobal - you get BariActive vitamins with their program.

I have always taken a non bariatric vitamin and done great.  

For those who worry about costs, Centrum or a generic brand (I get Kirkland brand from Cost****ost pennies and work just fine.  I also have never chewed anything and was popping pills the day after surgery.

Ditto. I get mine at Walgreen's, they have bottles of 120 pills for $12, buy one get one free. I had to split the pills into two pieces immediately post-op, but otherwise no trouble.

My NUT told me about these at my pre op consult.  He has given me the form to complete and I am going to give the script to my surgeon tomorrow at my final visit.  I just hope my insurance company won't balk at this.  It is so cost friendly to go through Nascobal to get EVERYTHING from them.  Of course, I am still waiting for the appeal determination, but I want to be ready when the time comes.

I get through from an on-line pharmacy, email me if you need the info.  At first I didn;t like the Bariactiv, but it comes in one box and is convenient and cost-friendly,a s you put it.

I'm in TX and I have Cigna.  The only insurance I've heard more horror stories about than Cigna is BCBS.  I plan to ask my surgeon to have a peer to peer review if they deny again.  If they deny after that, I will have to lick my wounds and start again.

I think that part of your ins problem is that in TX, bariatric surgery is a not covered procedure.   It's only covered in 23 states,  but (hopefully) you have some other things going on that would qualify you.  If not, there is Mexico or you could move to a state that covers it (not easy).  There may be people on OH that have more experience with Texas.

I don't know what you are basing your statement on, but it is simply is not true that bariatric surgery is only covered in 23 states.  This isn't something determined by what state someone lives in, but by what their insurance plan dictates.  It is only MANDATED in certain states, but that doesn't mean it isn't covered in the otehr states!

I have Cigna and had no issues getting my surgery approved. Each insurance company has guidelines and your doctor should know the guidelines prior to submitting for approval  It is obvious that it is your Dr's fault for not making sure all the required documentation and wording is accurate prior to submitting for approval. why is it always easy to blame to the insurance company when 50% of the time it is not there fault. SMH
