Daily! Does it make you go a lot? I seem to be an every other day or so pooper lol. And most of the time it's constipation (I need to drink more water). But if Miralax helps that, I will do the same. I just can't be running in the potty every few minutes at work cause my hands are usually in someone's mouth lol.

No- it helps me to go once a day- not have diarrhea. The surgeon told me to take miralax because I was having massive hard packed poo to the point I couldn't pass it. Also- it was taking 5 days for me to go.

They told me going every 2-3 days is a norm, but I'm not buying that. Why wouldn't you want to go everyday instead of letting it sit inside?

Right! I feel like you need to go everyday too. My hubby goes twice a day like clockwork - so jealous lol.

Definitely get to your family doctor ASAP.

I was having not so great luck in the area myself. This is what worked for me.

My surgeon recommended stopping all fiber supplements while constipated. I know that seems to be the opposite of what we're supposed you do, but fiber will make things bulkier than they already are and can make it even more difficult to go. She also recommended a Miralax cleanse similar to a pre-colonscopy cleanse. Ask your doctor about doing one, and about the fiber too.

I now add a capful of Miralax to my morning coffee, and make sure I'm getting enough fats in my diet.

Hope you get relief. I can't imagine going two weeks without.

Thank you to all! I took a laxative yesterday, and it really got things moving. Ive been taking stool softners daily so that kept thing a bit easier. Although it pretty much kept me up all night running to the bathroom I think I've cleared myself out.

So many have recommended the miralax, so I will be picking that up today to avoid future problems! Again I cannot thank you all enough.

Try all the usuals. Fiber, softeners or even a laxative if necessary. Are you getting enough water in???? This is very important along with fruits if you can tolerate them. If all else fails there's always an enema. This is definitely something you need to get going though. If all else fails I would definitely see my pcp or get a new one if you can. It may be that once you get the ball rolling, so to speak. Everything will normalize. This is a problem that at the very least will make you feel miserable and could lead to more serious heath complications.

Good Luck, Rich

I went a week without going a few weeks back and finally used an enema - actually two, and that got it going.  It's not fun but it works!  Good luck!

Don't think I will be using a laxative and stool softener at the same time again. Between getting up every hour last night, my stomach is still not happy with me today. Lots of cramps :(

Tommorow is a new day.! Again thank you all

Today, the surgeon talked to me about constipation... I know you're feeling better, but throwing this up there since it was just today we spoke :)

Surgeon's recommendation:

  • Stool softener three times a day and Benefiber in anything that will contain it
  • If that doesn't work, Milk of Magnesia
  • If that doesn't work, Miralax... but that you have to be able to get in a good amount of water for that to work.. and if you're constipated because water is a problem, this might not be as beneficial as one would like.
