Would You Do It Again?
In a hot minute!
this is my 10 months ago:
and this was me running a 5K last weekend at 9 months post op from RNY:
This surgery has changed my life like I never expected that it would! I guess only time will tell if I am a success story long term, but as of right now I have the mindset for long term success. I was scared before surgery because I had never had the willpower to take off more than a few pounds at a time, but I'm working it and it's working for me!
Over eating is a food addiction, for most. It's as serious as an alcohol addiction. However, there is no surgery to help an alcoholic get over his addiction, as there can be with the food. I related the analogy of having the surgery as divorcing food, but having to live in the same household as it. You eventually learn to get along, but food no longer has the power over you as it once did. It's a scary endeavor at first...battling the unknown...but once you've had the surgery and you take control of your eating, you'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner. I was on this sight for nearly 10 years before I finally decided to have my surgery. I'm down, total, over 110 pounds and am consistently losing, which I never could do as successfully before. I had one knee replaced before surgery, and had the weight loss surgery to help to save my other knee. I can cross my legs (big NSV), wear stockings (I never could find any that fit right and I like to wear stockings), run (did that by accident, didn't even realize I thought to do that in an urgent situation), walk up stairs without being winded, tie my shoes without having to manipulate myself to reach my shoes, wear high heals (not that I really like to do that, but I can wear them with much more ease now)...so many things which may seem such a simple thing to most who don't experience weight problems, but are major problems to the vertically challenged. (I should have been 7'10" tall for my weight ;) ).

RNY generally makes GERD go away. VSG can make GERD worse, or even worse, cause GERD to begin in people who never had it before.
Without hesitation, I would do it again. And again. My only regret is waiting this long.
