You have no need to apologise.  You weren't misrepresenting your experience and it was good advice!

I guess this was my initiation ;) ROFL

It's all good.

Yup, I'm pre-op... yup, I'm a newbie... Flog me with a long spaghetti noodle, just don't make me eat it because I'm on my pre-op diet, and pasta is OUT

Surgery soon!

I actually learned from you. I'm pre-op too and nobody explained to me why I couldn't drink before and after I ate. So, Thank you!

But from everything I've read here, as well as other sites, what your doctor told you is correct.

No drinking 30 min before, during, and after a meal (otherwise, you are just washing all that good protein straight through).

Good proteins first, meats, cheeses - non-starchy veggies second (broccoli, green beans, cauliflower - not carrots, potatoes, etc). At leaset 60g of good solid protein a day.

120 ounces of water. don't drink your calories (that includes alcohol).

Cut out ALL sugars/flours/breads/crackers, etc. after about 10 days you will lose the cravings.

You have a tool, and it sounds like your doctor has checked out your pouch, and it's working as it's supposed to. Now you have to work on your end to make the magic happen.

What I dislike is a pre op person preaching to a PO person.

I have to agree.  I totally get it that pre ops have their heart in the right place, I KNOW their intentions are great!!!  But when it comes to regain and revisions that really is something only a vet can relate to.

I have a f/b page for wls vets only if anyone is interested.   If you are a vet and you have issues (regain, mechanical issues, revisions, etc.) you are welcome.  Just PM me and I'll give you the link.

How do we know who you are?   You've only been here a couple of weeks so how do we know you have any experience?  Perhaps Christine only wants people with the word VET in their name dispensing advice?

Doubt I would expose my FB page to someone with zero profile.

Be careful, OH really doesn't like people discussing external groups, particularly Facebook, and tend to delete posts mentioning them.

It does not sound like you need a revision. I can eat a ton, also, but choose not to most of the time. It is what keeps me at goal 7 years after my RNY. It is not magic.

Thank Christine & Laura.  I have asked for the surgical notes and hopefully they are sent to me soon.   I know my insurance will be charged for the large hiatal hernia repair but they should not be charged for a revision to the RNY.  I feel like I have everything going against me but I also know that I need to get back on the exercise band wagon.  The doctors have always told me it would be hard for me to lose weight, I have polycystic ovaries and I am post menopause.

HI Monkey51

I am writing because I havent seen this specifically addressed.

I have PCOS too (but I am pre-menopausal) and I have found what you said to be true regarding weight gain IF the food is carby.

I know it stinks, and there are days that I would kill for a Ritz cracker/Cheezit/Cheetos/piece of toast with butter, but we have to stay away from pasta, noodles, bread, crackers, chips, white potatoes, and etc.  The way it was described to me was that we release too much insulin in teh prescence of these FAST carbs. The excess insulin cross reacts with the testosterone receptor (i.e. like synthetic testosterone), which results in us bulking up, gaining weight, getting hairy, messing with our cycle, and leaving dark skin patches at our folds (think neck, inner thighs, where the waists of our pant****).

The only fruit I really eat are berries (strawberry & blue berries) and apples.  Every starch that I eat is low glycemic (i.e. sweet potatoes not white potatoes).

Following a low carb/low GI diet wiht my RNY, I have lost and maintained. I think I am approaching year 3 post op.

Good luck to you.

Best wishes
