64 oz. of Water for WLS - Fact or Fiction?
Thank you, Grim for your detailed and insightful post. I really appreciate the time and care you put into your posts; it's very helpful. You're right, I have been focusing on the minimums with a 'just get thru the day' kind of mentality, and I deserve better - dammit.
I want to be successful, and I feel that I've been holding onto old habits of just getting by, trying to survive the day - a scarcity mindset if you will. I see now that my depression is getting the better of me, gotta call the shrink.

It does get easier the further out you are. The first year I really had to have a plan to get my fluids in... Once I hit a year I could drink normally like I did before surgery. I still count my fluids to make sure I get enough in...

I have found that using an "additive" like crystal lite or Propel really helps me drink my fluids. Sometimes just plain old water is what I want, but most of the time I find that drinking something with flavor makes it much easier to get it down.
As for the difference in weight loss, I seem to lose faster on weeks when I'm really good about drinking my quota. It makes a difference also in my constipation issues and I notice that my skin is less crispy when I drink adequate quantities of water. I have eczema problems, so I do mean crispy. I also think it helps my skin, overall, rebound better so I have less crepe and sag.
Interesting question. I have been pretty good about getting in close to 64 oz of liquid every day but I think I need more because my urine is still dark sometimes. I am striving to get more than 64 oz in every day, Before surgery I drank at least 120 oz of water every day.

I am almost 4 years out now,so drinking water is much easier for me but I have found when my intake is down a bit my skin is drier and constipation is an issue. I try to achieve 100 ounces a day, especially when the weather is warm. The more I drink the better I feel and the more stable my weight is too! You will get there too. It just takes time!
Recently, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has recommended that men drink about 3.7 liters (about 13 cups) of water daily and women drink about 2.7 liters (about 9 cups). Also, there is a calculator from Body Building to determine what each individual needs to drink in order to meet their specific needs. I calculated mine and it was 114 ounce!!! Don't think I can do that! My bariatric nutritionists told me to get 80-100 ounces per day. More info here http://www.mybariatriclife.org/drinking-water-for-weight-loss/
