I needed to postpone my surgery. Anyone else lose their nerve and later have their surgery?
I was signed up to have my surgery yesterday but I lost my nerve and postponed my surgery. For me it seemed that all the education and the run up to the surgery (Shakes, special showers, Vitamins, etc) was making me more nervous, instead of calming me down. Finally after having several panic attacks and a fit of crying, I called the surgery off...for now. I sought counseling and we are working on the situation.
Anyone else loose their nerve and postponed their surgery? What did you do to eventually get the surgery? How long did it take?

never. I couldn't wait to get on the table for my surgery.
I would have it every month if that isbwhst it took to lose and keep the weight off.
Same here!!
Hurricane Ike hit days before my surgery and the whole city was flooded. I cried and cried because I was worried my surgery would be postponed. Thankfully it was not delayed.

The fear of the unknown can be terrifying... I know I kept having conversations in my head...in the 3rd person talking to myself.... LOL
I kept telling myself--- my Doc has done 4000 surgeries and never had anyone die, what made me think I was going to be the first one?
If you ask people, almost everyone will say no regrets. This is so much better than my old life, and I loved my old life... Even with the challenges along the way, no regrets....

Hope you are able to make peace with your decision whatever it ends up being.
I will say this... obesity is the 2nd leading cause of preventable death... that is a fact. So really... you are risking your life every day. Complication rates for weight loss surgery are very low and in line with other surgeries (c-sections, appendix removal, gallbladder) and while it is a lot at first... really it becomes second nature within a few months... vitamins, shakes, you will develop a system that works for you. I space my vits 3 times a day... I chew my calcium midday cause calcium messes with other vits but other than that as long as you get them in is the main thing.
Protein Shakes... tons out there... but generally you want low sugar, low carb, whey protein isolate if possible... then its a taste thing... some suck... some that suck for me you might love... buy some samples/travel packets until you find something you love... you can add things to doctor them up too. 60-70 grams a day (no one gets that in right away, but aim each day for better till you hit it most days) when you eat regular food it's really not that hard.
Anyway glad you are getting some counseling. I wish you well!
P.S. I have never taken a special shower LOL... not sure what that is... sounds sort of kinky.
I must have missed the seminars on special showers, too!! lol

^ This made me LOL...
It never occurred to me that it wasn't standard protocol, but I guess changes occur over the years. From my (extensive) pre-op handbook:
Three days before surgery - Start showering with Hibiclens.
Showering instructions.
- DO NOT use Hibiclens to wash your hair or face! Only use Hibiclens on your body.
- Wash your hair and face using your normal products and rinse well..
- Using a clean unused washcloth and Hibiclens, wash from your neck down to your toes.
- DO NOT use Hibiclens near your eyes, ears, or around your xxx area. ( I didn't want to offend anyone)
- Rinse your body well.
- Pat yourself dry with a clean, unused towel.
- DO NOT shave the area of your body where the surgery will be performed for 5 days prior to surgery. Small cuts can allow germs to enter the body.
- DO NOT apply lotions, powders or perfumes.
- Dress in clean clothing and use clean sheets on your bed. Anyone sleeping in the same bed should wear clean clothing.
- DO NOT allow pets to sleep in your bed prior to or after surgery
Repeat this shower process after day starting 3 days prior to surgery and again on the morning of the shower.
Boo, nothing kinky or exciting. LOL

Thanks for the info, but sheesh do they really need to tell people to dress in clean clothing & use clean sheets on the bed? Damn after all that washing & cleaning who'd want to dress in dirty clothes or sleep in a dirty bed? My cats would object very vocally if they couldn't sleep in my bed. lol
