Water intake/dry climates
on 4/5/16 8:12 am
Hi everyone!! I was wondering for those who live in super dry climates like I do (Phoenix) what have you found to be the ideal water intake for you? I struggle sometimes still to get my 64 ounces in but I feel like I need even more than 64 here in the desert! We haven't had any measurable rain since early February and it was only 0.02 inches!! It's sooooo dry!!!
so, what have you found to be a good intake level, desert rats?

Kudos to you for getting your 64 ounces in, I'm in Reno (ugh) and I struggle to even get that. That's what my doctor recommends. I can't imagine it would be bad for you if you felt like you needed more hydration or were still thirsty to drink more than that, a lot of people I know drink 100 ounces a day. If you're out in the sun working, or doing a lot of outside physical activity, you're going to need more.

I'm in Tucson. Basically, if I'm not eating and I'm not drinking something else, I'm sipping on my water bottle. I have a couple of 32oz Nalgene bottles, one lives on my desk at work and one follows me around at home. I shoot for at least a bottle and a half during the workday (in addition to flavored seltzer water or whatever), a full bottle before bed, and half of one when I get up at night or before I leave for work.
When I'm outside cycling, I push even more. Water break every 15 minutes, MAX, half of my 20oz squeeze bottle each break. I've got the small bottle on my frame, and I have a large trunk bag that can hold my Nalgene plus a larger bottle (like Gatorade or something) that I use to refill the squeeze bottle when I stop.

I too am in Phoenix, well Chandler :P I drink about 80 ounces a day, sometimes more, rarely less. I still manage to have the world's driest skin though! Supposedly it is going to rain this week, fingers crossed!

Thanks everyone. My doctors recommendation is at least 64 ounces which as I said I sometimes struggle to meet. But I think I'm really going to try for at least another 8-16 oz because it's. Just. So. Dry. Here!! Despite daily lotioning I look reptilian and I pee maybe for times a day which for me is a lot less than I did preop. I will try some new tactics to get it all in! Thanks guys!
