A Little Ticked Off
So, I'm feeling pretty good about my weight loss and poo-pooing all the nay-sayers that say wls was a cop out. I'm thinking, "Man, I GOT this!" Then, I go in for a little biopsy at my gyn's office where she has an anesthesiologist whom I don't really care for after an incident during a previous procedure. That time, this "doctor" stuck me five times in the hand trying to get in the IV line. I told him to try somewhere else, but he refused. He told me he missed because I moved. Was he serious?! Believe me, I didn't move. By the time he was finished, I was shaking and blood was dripping down my hands. He finally was able to get the IV in my wrist, so we could do the procedure (an ablation - best thing EVER besides my WLS). Anyway, on to the biopsy. I prepared myself this time by asking my gyn if she would tell the anesthesiologist to put the IV in the bend of my elbow. She said that was fine. So, comes the day of my biopsy and LEEP. He doesn't remember me, and proceeds to ask me if I've had any surgeries. I reminded him of the ablation and then my wls. He asks how much I weighed previously. I told him my weight day of surgery. He then said, "That's it? You could have lost that weight on your own. Did you even try? What is your goal weight?" I told him, then I shared my surgeon's goal, which was 120 lbs. He then said, "He's a good salesman, isn't he?" Are you frickin serious? My surgeon is well-known and respected. It's a Bariatric Center of Excellence and he's comparing him to a salesman selling me on skinny? If the man wasn't getting ready to stick a needle in my arm, I'd have kicked him. He then says, "Oh, just kidding," because he sees I'm upset. He goes to check my hands and says, "Oh,that's easy." I told him no, do it in my arm. He says, "You're going to make me nervous, and if I miss, it's going to be your fault." I told him, "I'd expect nothing less." Luckily, he hit it on the first try. I remember nothing after that except the song Blank Space in my head (no pun intended).
Can you believe this guy? Have any of you experienced this kind of attitude with a medical "professional"?

Once you get a ways out, people will stop giving you their opinions because it'll be just who you are now. In the meantime, you'll need to grow a thick skin.
It works for me not to invite opinions. I'll ask if I need them, but until then people can zip it!

I did tell my gyn, but she said the anesthesiology group won't send her anyone else. He's probably offended too many patients at other doctor's offices, so they've run out of places to send him. Jerk!

I hope that it was really cathartic to write it all down and give it away to others. It helped me to learn this exact exercise for dissipating the idiocy everywhere around us.
It is very smart for you to have done this. I believe that people confuse lipo and other surgeries used to remove weight for ours. They will never understand anyway. I'm sorry this sucked so bad.
A little ticked? I'd be pissed and ask for another Doctor - unless there was no other choice, then I'd have handled it the exact same way as you did! You poor thing!!!
