VSG + Gall bladder removal??
Hello. My surgery date is scheduled for March 22! I'm so excited... I'm ready! Question: During routine check ups it was found I have three large gallstones. On one of the discussions with a nurse she stated the doctor should remove the gallbladder during the same time as the VS surgery. Has anyone had these two procedure done during same surgery??
I've heard of it being done frequently if there is a problem. I'm not sure if gallstones qualify. Definitely ask the Doc.

Having both done at once is very common. If your gallbladder is wonky now, it might get worse with weight loss.
The surgery itself is not the issue. Anyone losing a large amount of weight, surgery or not, is at higher risk for gallbladder issues.

When I had my surgery back in the dark ages (2000), I had my gallbladder removed at the same time. The rationale for it -- even though I had no problem at the time -- according to my surgeon, was that a great many people who have this surgery end up with gallbladder problems so you might as well get rid of it before it starts.
That said, I haven't had any issues one way or the other, and to be honest I didn't really notice it during the recovery phase either. I also had a hiatal hernia repair at the same time and didn't notice that either.
