A different kind of NSV
I posted a week ago about my breast cancer diagnosis. Yesterday I met with my oncologist for the first time. As is always thr procedure when visiting a doctor, I had to report all my current meds...none! I had to report all my current health conditiions...none (aside from cancer)! No HBP, diabetes, or high cholesterol...latest bloodwork shows my serum glucose is normal.
The doc said except for the cancer I am a healthy specimen. He said my weight loss surgery was my life preserver for making me healthy to go through chemo. Thank you Dr. RoseMarie Jones for making me a healthy specimen on 12/4/15.

What a wonderful report from your oncologist. I am a breast cancer survivor, and the risk for reoccurance was one of the main reasons why I was finally able to admit to myself that I needed help with my weight, and magical thinking about losing and keeping it off wasn't going to work. Let me know if I can help in any way, or you have any questions. Talking to someone who has "been there" is helpful when dealing with a cancer diagnosis. Hugs!

Thank you, Gary. Chemo is only the first phase of treatment. Next I will have a double mastectomy (the left side is a prophylatic measure), radiation, then finally 1 full year of Herceptin infusions every 3 weeks.

I was diagnosed in 5/2011. I had a lumpectomy (two tumors, but they were close together so they could do the breast conservation surgery), 18 months of chemo, including Herceptin, radiation and am in my last year of meds (3 year Tamoxifan and 2 years Anastrozole). I am also getting infusions of Zoledronate every 6 months (for 3 years) to build bone density because Anastrozole can cause loss. it is also supposed to lessen the risk for reoccurance by a couple of percentage points. I will take all of the help I can get.
