Good for you for reading the label. 42 grams of sugar would put some of us in the hospital!

Yeah, I have learned the importance of that and all I could think of was 42 grams of sugar was like drinking a can of soda. Even if I'm only eating a 1/4 of it at a time, that amount of sugar is no good.

I'm allergic to soy. So, I'm looking for a protein bar that is low in sugar (none would be nice) and no soy (that means no soy oil, lethicin, soy flour, soy beans, edame, tofu). Anyone even heard of such a thing?

My favorite bar has gone the way of the dodo. It's probably for the best..haha. I'd started eating them too often.

They were bars from a company called ANSI Nutrition. They had some great protein bars. My favorite was "chocolate chip cookie dough cheesecake". They also had a peanut butter chocolate chip cheesecake bar. They recently "improved" upon the bars and totally ruined them. They did away with the choc chip cookie dough....I was bummed, but I bought them too often anyway. RIP chocolate chip cookie dough cheesecake protein bar. I don't think the bars are back in stock anywhere other than the company's website. They totally ruined stats on them. They used to run 170 or 180 calories and had 20 g of protein, now they have over 200 calories. Boo.

I can't do Quest bars anymore. I could for a while when I was about a year out, but then something changed and they started making me sick, which is how I stumbled upon the ANSI bars.

42 grams of sugars is scary high...glad you read the label on the Clif bar.

Why oh why do they have to change something when it's good! I never understood why companies change it up like that. So far for me, Quest bars seem to be the best tasting. I've only tried a few of the flavors but that's because where I shop only carries like 3, sometimes 4 flavors. I guess I could try ordering some on Amazon (these people have made so much money from my household lol).

I will eat a protein bar or 1/2 everyday. The surgeon wanted me on 6 mini meals throughout the day and 1/2 a bar for 10 grams of protein isn't bad. As long as you don't go down the rabbit hole with it.

I eat quest or GNC total lean ones. The GNC ones were marked 90% off so I bought a ton of them.

The ones with the higher sugar alcohol I do not get.

I can't do protien bars (based on pre WLS experience), because they spike my sugar and turn me into a cravings monster. I'd rather do the work of resisting and eating something with less sugar (pepperettes, cheese) than making myself to do battle with the sugar demons.

That might just be me though!

I guess the protein bars don't trigger anything for me since I'd rather eat salty foods. A 1/4 to 1/2 of a bar is pretty satisfying for me. If I eat a piece of cheese, then I want more. I love cheese and deli meats rolled up but I steer clear of too much cheese because of the fat. I only eat it once a day. I have to say though, since starting this WLS I have come to love refried beans with a sprinkle of cheese and taco sauce. If I could eat that every day when I got a little hungry between meals, I would lol. I just don't have the time between patients....that's why I opted for the protein bars.
