my doctor had me on Belviq it was suppressing my appetite but I would have severe headaches, so she prescribed Phentermine has anyone taken this drug....I didn't know this drug was on the market my Grandmother use to talk about this drug when I was little....nickname was Phen Phen...is it any good? does it really work?

Phen Phen was a combination of Phentermine and something else. That combination proved to be deadly in many cases.  I took Phentermine for a while.  It worked...for a while, but I didn't lose a significant amount of weight and certainly didn't keep it off.  Had the sleeve done around Christmas of last year and am being much more successful with it than I have with anything I have ever done to try to lose weight.  It's not easy, no matter what you choose to do.

I've been robbed! My grandbaby stole my heart!  She just raised her hands and I surrendered.

Phen Phen did cause a lot of cardiac problems for people.  I was very fortunate that it did not for me.  I had to have an Echocardiogram to make sure there was no cardiac damage from Phen Phen.  I think I lost 30 pounds taking it and gained it all back plus some.  The sleeve has been my savior.  And handtlkr is so right - no matter what you choose to use, it takes a lot of work.

i did phentermine thru a weight loss clinic. lost about 60 pounds just before my wedding. didnt eat much, maybe 700 calories a day while on it.

i imagine it to be like a VSG, just medical. which is why im interested in the VSG actually.. i could still overeat with Phentermine if I wanted. stomach was same size just not much of an appetite. i lost that much weight on it, but when i stopped i gained about 80 pounds back within a year.

What do you hope to accomplish with Phentermine - short term weight loss to get to a weight where WLS could be performed, or do you want the Phentermine to be a long term solution?  You will likely need to take your situation - current wt, highest weight, diet history into account to see if you can meet your goals through medication only.

The doctor just wants me to take it to help with losing the 30 pounds so it would be short term....I'm wanting to get the bypass

I have taken phentermine a few different times in the past.  Every time I would lose a good amount of weight in the 3 months I was on it (you can only be on it for 3 months at a time) but as soon as I stopped taking it I gained all the weight back plus more.  It's just not worth the long term gain to lose some for a short while.
