High protein and low carb diet? Impossible for me!

I'm 3 months post op. I'm grateful to have lost 80 lbs (including the month prior to surgery). I've gotten food stuck more times than I can count. I think I'm done with the stage of leaving what I can and can't handle. I've come to the conclusion that all meats are off limits. The only things, with the exception of soups, that I can handle are high in carb like mashed potatoes, grits, and rice. How can I maintain a low carb diet, if that's all I can handle???

are you taking small enough bites and chewing well? are your meats moist enough? if you absolutely can't tolerate meats there are many things high in protein you can eat..  seafood (fish/shrimp/salmon/tuna.. etc), eggs, cottage cheese and yogurt with protein powder stirred in

Protein shakes!

I take a 6oz water / 1 scoop of powder shake 2x a day and then have a "real food" dinner. Each of those shakes is 25 grams of protein, tastes great and goes down easy. Ultra low carbs too. The jug recommends having a 12 oz water / 2 scoops powder shake 1x a day but I try to make it last for 2 meals and then eat a high protein dinner like salmon or lean turkey chewed up really well and eaten slowly.

Usually end my day with 60-80 grams of protein and less than 20 grams of carbs, with less than 10 grams of fat.

If you need to have a snack to increase your protein a bit in between a meal, you could try protein infused coffees or sugar free pudding and jello with added protein powder.

It does take some time to adjust but generally by 3 months it's not happening as much for most post-ops. Has your Dr ruled out a stricture? What's he/she saying about it?

Moisture level of foods helps... Greek Yogurt dips helped/help me... plain Greek Yogurt, seasonings... sort of the way you'd use Ranch but healthier and more protein. I dip all meats.

Crockpot cooking, steaming.

Seafood (scallops super soft oodles of protein), flaky fishes.

Protein Shakes with protein powder (and/or beefed up with cottage cheese)

I personally buy protein shakes (really tasty) from dietdirect.com .   They are high in protein very low in carbs and almost no sugar.  I love them and it keeps my protein up.  I can't really eat rice myself i can feel every grain inside of me lol.   I can eat most meats but i have to be very careful.  You are still pretty early i couldnt really eat meats for about 6 months.  I still cant eat certain meat (roast beef is a negative batman).   As time goes on, you should be able to eat almost everything.   Congrats on the major weight loss :) :) :)

I Absolutely lived off protein shakes and greek yogurt for the first the first three months.  Eating gets easier and better.

I'm almost 3 months out on 15th and really haven't had issue with meats etc. Eggs sometimes bother me. Have you tried low fat gravy with meat to make it moist and are you taking a tiny bite then chewing it 30 times?

Might want to check with the DR to make sure you don't have an issue.

What about tuna, white fish, scallops?

Just a few months ago I though that there was no way I could get all of my protein in and keep my carbs low.  Now, at 7 months post op, I can easily get 100g of protein for less than 900 calories.
