No More Diet Pepsi

I've been waiting for almost two years and still have about another year until my surgery but I have decided to start taking concrete steps toward becoming healthier after reading your suggestions on this site.

After about thirty-five years of drinking at least one large bottle of Diet Pepsi a day, I have quit cold turkey. I was prepared for horrific headaches and a lot of crankiness but this is day three and I have not experienced anything negative. I'm both shocked and grateful.

I'm going to gradually eliminate poor food choices from my diet, including reducing sodium, drinking more water, not drinking with meals and so forth, so I will be better prepared for the post-op lifestyle.

Additionally, I have started walking everyday and will increase the time and add strength training in the next few months.

Thanks so much to all of you for generously sharing your journeys. I don't think I could do it without you!

That's fantastic!!! I was a huge diet soda drinker and it was a very difficult thing for me to give up. I did it slowly and now it's not something I even think of.

You are such an inspiration to others!  With your wonderful pre-surgery attitude, you should be very, very successful with your surgery and weight loss.  All the best to you!

I really struggled with giving up pop. It sang a siren song to me almost up to the day of surgery. I tried a small sip of soda water the other day and it burned so bad I decided not to drink any more. Note to self: no more testing the pouch.

Good for you! It's giving yourself a wonderful gift! March ahead everyday. It's a great way to set yourself up for success. With that proactive attitude of yours, you'll do well. Good luck.

I wasn't a huge soda drinker before, but I certainly had my share. I've not had soda of any fashion in over a year. Its really an afterthought for me now---  build the habit of drinking other things and I think the desires diminishes over time.

Just like you I gradually eliminated things, or made other adjustments. Everything at once was too overwhelming of an idea. Good luck!

Congratulations on adopting such a super attitude.  It took surgery to make me quit. I couldn't have done it before surgery. Good for you.  I still think that it would taste good and I'd like one now and then but it's not hard to resist the temptation. Like Peachy Pie, it's been over a year now. You're several steps ahead of the game and will do well. I admire you.

Yay- this is great. I was a huge coffee/coke drinker. I first went off the cokes, then switched to 1/2 and 1/2 coffee til about 2 1/2 months before surgery. Then I went to decaf.

It was rough...

I never really liked the taste of diet drinks though. plus they usually contributed to bathroom problems for me.
