Please Help w/my FB Status RE: Surgery Announcement

I've been fussing over coming up with my facebook status prior to my surgery, and I want to be sure to 'get it right'.  I want it to be honest, positive, and word it in a way that makes it clear I'm not asking for their opinion, just their support.  (Although I suspect some won't be able to resist anyway).   So, here's what I've come up with.  Do you think it's missing something, or does it say too much??  All opinions are welcome here!  Thanks!!!

For the past 6 months I've been working on a goal to get approved for gastric bypass surgery. After many months of research, support groups, dietician and doctor visits, plus water aerobics I'm happy to say that I've been approved. My surgery is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 29th. I'm really excited to be moving forward with this. I have been struggling with my weight my entire adult life and I'm grateful to have this opportunity to get healthy. This is by no means an easy way out. I've been implementing lots of changes prior to surgery, and afterwards there will be many more. I ask for all the love, prayers and support that I can get. I'm a little nervous about putting this out there, but I hope y'all will be there for me.

It sounds great!  The only thing I would add is that after all of your research you know that this surgery gives you the best chance of keeping the weight off and staying healthy.  You are very brave to put this out there on a public forum, and I applaud you for it.

Sounds great.  I would add as Neesie said:

Statistics show that 95% - 97% of people who lose more than 50 pounds without surgery have gained it all back by the end of five years.  Weight loss surgery gives a tool to get the weight off and to keep it off.

I never did a public post on FB. I told people who were in my day-to-day- life, and never have been against telling anyone if I had the time to talk to them about it. It is important how you word things, good to have a script and word it in such a way as it is not open ended as to whether I should have or shouldn't have had it.

If you feel this is a good way to go, a thought  for consideration is why don't you post it right after the surgery...

I am having my Plastics on the same day. Something significant about Leap year Day... leaping forward into the new you! (and Me!)

Edited to add: I have lost weight many times in my life, I lost 100lbs 5x, and almost 100 several others. This is the first time I have hope of keeping it off.

I think it sounds a bit defensive - like you're expecting people to judge you and give you grief.  If they do, do you want to deal with that pre-op?

(I waited until about 6 months post-op to make a FB announcement.)

I think it's good! I'm 4 weeks post op and didn't announce it. Only my family, a few friends and my coworkers are aware...just wanted this all to be about me rather than worrying about what others will say or do or think. I'm still not quite sure how I want to handle it when I get questions- I know they'll come especially since I'm sure I'll have new photos on FB eventually and I haven't show anything below my neck there for years! LOL!

During the last half of 2015 another OHer made such an announcement on FB.  I thought it was so well worded that I copied and saved it in my phone...in case I wanted to make an announcement myself.

Well, last week my phone blew up.  Even though Verizon assured me that ALL my files and apps would be backed up, saved and downloaded to my replacement phone, they weren't.  I lost all of my apps and all of my saved notes.  The saved FB announcement was lost.

Maybe someone here saved the announcement, or knows who posted it, or maybe the OHer, herself, will step forward.

On the off chance it was me, here's the post I made about it -- https://www.myvsg.net/2-uncategorised/259-facebook

The support I received was mind blowing.  https://www.myvsg.net/2-uncategorised/261-facebook-followup

Yay rah, Gwen! Although a very good "coming out" FB post, it's not the one I was referring to.

It's certainly your decision on what and when to make an announcement on FB, but I'm with Gwen on this one.   There's plenty of time to let people know about your surgery.  But if you feel this is the best way for you, go for it.
