Ocular migraine?

Does anyone get migraines?

before surgery I wore glasses. I had gotten a pair almost a year beforehand. About a month before surgery, when I was really cracking down on my diet and carb intake, my eyesight changed and I wasn't able to wear my glasses anymore (that can really show how blood sugar and diabetes affect vision). Anyway, since surgery, I haven't really "needed" glasses. Today I was sitting in a meeting and the flourescent lights really started to bother me. I felt a little eyestrain, but nothing terrible.

Then immediately after I ate lunch, I was working at my computer and I started getting this kaleidescope effect in my right eye where there were floaters moving around looking and I couldn't really focus on the page or the screen in front of me. So of course I googled that **** Sounds like I was getting an ocular migraine. I've never had migraines before.

I ran to my car where I have an old pair of reading glasses from about 5 years ago and I'm wearing them now. Since I put them on, the floaters went away and I have a mild headache behind my eyes and in my temples. I just took two tylenol, but I'm not sure if it's going to help.

Has anyone had this happen before? I'm not in horrible excruciating pain, though I'm mildly uncomfortable with the headache. I was kinda freaking out at first thinking I was going to have a stroke, lol.

I would see your ophthalmologist right away. Any sudden change in vision should be checked out.

I agree that you should check it out for sure, in case it could be something serious. I was diagnosed with ocular migraines a few years ago. For me, they don't really involve any pain, more of just an inconvenience. I get a weird, oval shaped, shimmering area in my vision, which won't allow me to focus on what's right in front of me, although I can see what's on the outside of my vision. They usually last about 20 minutes or so for me and then my vision goes back to normal. Sometimes I can sense it coming, with a tiny area of "shimmer" and if I get to a really dark area and sit for a few minutes I can forstall it.

Good luck with it!

Get to an eye doctor right away.  Something is wrong and you don't want to risk losing your vision.  This is an emergency, call and insist on an appointment immediately.  If you are not successful with getting in, then go to an emergency room or urgent care.

Eighteen months ago I had a similar incident.  It was caused because a vein in back of the eye ruptured.  The floaters were blood spray.  My vision went from 20/20 in that eye to 20/200 after three days.  It took a year of injections in the eye to get it back to 20/20.  Without treatment I could have lost all vision in that eye.

I'll call the ophthalmologist that my PCP has been referring me to for years. I've always gone to just an optometrist, but I think after that incident I'll be heading to the specialist.  I haven't worn glasses in months because nothing I have works right anymore.  I've been holding off because my eyesight is so greatly improved since surgery and I didn't want the extra expense of new glasses.  I have vision coverage, but I just got glasses in September 2014 and they only cover frames ever 2 years.  I broke my other frame in September, which made me mad because they were Tiffany and Co.

Thanks for the responses everyone.  The headache went away completely, and my vision is back to normal.  I'll be calling the doctor shortly.

Saw the opthamologist this morning.  Every thing is fine with my eyes,  it was just a migraine.

Also,  found out that my eyesight has corrected itself as my diabetes has gone into remission.  I am back to 20/20 vision and don't need glasses anymore.  I'd stoppedd wearing them before surgery because they were bothering me.

My A1C is 4.7, my diabetes is in remission.

Great news! As someone who used to get lots of migraines when I was peri-menopausal...most the migraine medicines have caffeine in them my understanding is because it helps dilate your blood vessels which helps the blood flow.  So maybe have a coffee chaser with your tylenol.
I am not a doctor- check with yours but here is an article saying they are OK to take together... Tylenol and Coffee

Well it sounds like you got some good news! That is awesome!

Just in cases this helps you= Several forms of birth control like the NuvaRing are known to cause many ocular migraine symptoms.  I don't know if you are on any but I know several people who have had these symptoms and the birth control was the cause.

I am glad you are feeling better.
